i bought a bow about a year ago and cant seem to get the peep right where i think it needs to be, the bow tech at work suggested i buy a bigger one and it works well, but i still have to lean my head forward, he said they should go 6 inches above the knocking point on the bow string and its right on the dot at 6 inches i am fine with having to lean my head in a little bit but i am just wondering if thats normal for some shooters or should i take it to be raised up some. sight question, well i was shooting today and it shot a little high at 5 yards would that be because the first pin is set at 10 yards? i didnt think it would matter much at that distance.
Hold your head up like you normally would. Then close your eyes and draw without moving your head. When you come to full draw and anchor open your eyes. You should be looking through the peep without having to move your head.
There's no "absolute placement" for a peep sight. It mainly depends on your anchor point. My anchor point is rather far back compared to most people i've seen shoot so my peep sight is a lot higher up from the nock point. This is right:
I don't think I have ever set a peep 6" above the nock for anyone. If your so called tech believes that is where everyone should set their peep, then find a new tech. Peep should be in a comfortable and repeatable position that allows for solid anchors and allows you to hold the bow steady.Close your eyes and come to anchor, then open your eyes. You should be looking through the peep. If not,it is in the wrong place. After getting it close, you should be repeating that process at 20 yards until it is comfortable and repeatable with the 20 yard pin on target.
thank every one for the info, i just drew back my bow and opened my eye looked and i would have to move the peep sight up about an inch or two. which would put the peep like 3 inches or less from the idler wheel. now heres my question to that how close can i put my peep to the idler wheel? could my draw length be to long. i just had it adjusted and shortened lt a bit so i believe that i should be on point with draw length
also if i moved my peep sight i would not beable to see my whole sight just the pins. so thats why i think we didnt move it up any when i had the bow tech look at it
Can you upload a picture of your current setup? I'm just trying to picture this setup in my head. If it were my bow and my peep had to be 3 inches from the wheel - my anchor would be very low and far back - almost under my chin : / Something doesn't seem right..
you are deffinatly right, sir! i was wrong there. as yall can see i am very new to this, i have been playing around with my peep sight and no matter where i move it it seems that i cant see my whole sight, i just got a new 3/4 inch peep too i dont know how much bigger of one i can get. i guess what i should be asking is about anchor points. when i draw back my bow where should the string rest? the corner of my mouth correct? thats pretty much where its at. but when i moved my peep sight down so i could see the front sight i could only see the pins not if it was level or anything. could i possably shorten my draw length? i measured my draw length several times and still come up with where its at now. i am sitting at like 23 or 24 inches. slider 46 thanks for bearing with me.
I am a newb also, but I could not see through the peep correctly until I had my draw increased. Moves the peep closer to the eye. What part of the string touches the corner of your mouth?
Sounds like your bowtech didn't know what he was talking about. Like Slider46 said, there is "no" exact placement that a peep shight should go. It's all based on the individual. Here's how I find my peep sight point: I draw my bow, then I have someone take a black sharpie or whiteout and mark were I beleive to be the center of my eye as I see it on the string. Then I have my bowtech install the peep in the center of the mark. You can also have your bowtech install the peep without tieing it in and have them adjust with you drawing your bow.
x 2, this is the right advice for your situation mate. It never ceases to amaze me some of the shocking advice that comes out of so called pro shops, im glad im not at the mercy of them not knowing my way around a bow these days. Thats not to discount that there are good pro shops out there just that some staff dont have a clue.
Have a look at this info taken from Huntersfriend.com - specifically the "Finding Your Anchor Point" and "Visibility Through Your Peep Sight" sections. Again, if you can take a picture of your setup - we may be able to help you further.
As has been said close your eyes and draw... find your anchor. Then set the peep to your eye... you don't want to be rolling your head around looking for it. That's a recipe for wounded game. You need to be able to do the exact same thing every time. People anchor at different spots... where's yours? Mine is thumb under my jaw bone , pointer above my jaw bone, string (kisser) touching the tip of my nose. I go there everytime and don't look through the peep until I am solidly anchored. After that, the peep is almost a non-issue; more of a final check off before I release.
If you upload a picture fully body and head shot of you at full draw aiming at a target at shoulder height that would be great and we can help you out tremendously here. And please for your sake put an arrow in the bow when you take the pictures. I am trying to picture where and how you are anchoring if you need your peep that high. I have the highest peep I have ever seen on anyone's bow and its only 6 3/16" above nock point. I feel like your anchor is waaaay outa wack and or your draw length is waaay too long.
