The peep on my bow, only shows the pins themselves, it isnt big enough to show the whole sight, like most people like it.
so i am considering changing peeps, my question is how do you know what size to get so that it shows the whole bow sight? also what are the advantages/disadvantages of using a peep without the tube. i currently have one with a tube on it.

If it is a plastic peep (most with tubes are) you can try this first. Take a 3/16 or 1/4" drill bit and a variable speed drill and slowly ream out the hole. If you are careful, you can do it without even taking it out of the string if you do not have a bow press. This will most likely allow you to see your sight housing and provide for better allignment when shooting. Also does wonders when you are in low light or extremely sunny conditions. I dont like peep tubing just because it is one more thing that can go wrong, but alot of guys like it. You may need a bow press so that you can add twists to the string to get proper peep allignment without the tubing though. Hope this helps.

yes that helps thanks a lot.
i dont have a drill but i imagine i could find some other way to make the hole bigger.
then again since the season is so close i may just leave it alone, since i am shooting good now. Im always scared to make any changes.
last week i replaced the rubber tube (original was several years old) now my string seems to be twisted or something, because my nocking loop is cocked to one side, whereas before it was always straight out.

If you go ahead and make the change now I think you will be amazed at how much quicker you can get on target. When you draw your bow you dont want to have to work at finding your sight picture. It should just be there. Not doing it now could cost you a deer. I do undersand your point about not wanting to make changes close to season, but you are not changing an anchor point or weight of arrow or something that wil be a drastic change that will feel different. Opening up your peep will only make things more comfortable most likely. let me know how it works out.

Doubt that I'd be brave enough to take a drill bit to my peep while on the string, but I wouldn't hesitate to make changes that would likely benifit my shooting/hunting ability. What's the worst case scenario? You don't like the new "view", so you take the bow in to have a new (or old) peep installed... That's a cheap, easy fix!
