If I have to go, I go. I have never seen any deer spook by it. Like already mentioned, if you take a leak in a scrape, it actually helps that scrape and deer will freshen it up when they arrive. I remember years ago, when I was a younger, dumber hunter, I was in a stand and was taking a leak off it. Half stream, here comes a dandy buck right to my stand, grunting like crazy. Needless to say, I had to try stopping half stream (ever try that?) and trying to get a shot off. Well.... it didn't happen and he busted me. But the point there is, I believe that buck heard the "peeing action" and thought it was another buck. He sniffed around, right under my stand where I went. Only after walking away and catching me moving in the tree did he spook.
You'll read info both ways...my opinion on it is why risk it. I have a bottle I take, and pretty seems everytime I go hunting I use it (normal set time is 4 hours minimum). Numerous books and friends I've talked to state how they've seen deer minutes after peeing, and I believe them...however none of them have ever told how a Boone & Crockett caliber buck walked up to it so I'll stick to hiding my scent as much as possible.
Important advice. I've had deer come trotting in more than once at the sound me peeing. I assume they think its another deer. I have been literally caught with my dong in my hand. I hate having to stop once I start...it stings. I piss in scrapes if I happen to walk by one, and I have to go. Most of the time the scrape will be freshened up within 24 hours. I would avoid doing this if you've eaten asparagus recently. Brought to you by our friends at dontpissintothewind.com.
haha funny stuff the doe must've been in estrous and the bucks must've laughed at you.. I piss in my scrape drippers when there out of scent it actually works..
It will not spook deer. Urine is urine. Everything pees in the woods. Bears even poop. I have peed from the stand for many years and have never once had a deer spook. Believe me, I would not do anything to jeapordize my chances at the deer I am after. Vito, if it stings when you pee, you really need to get that looked at.......by a professional.
Throwing in my 2 cents.... I train working dogs and I had a dog that bite me while walking out the kennel. I ended up pissing on the dog and he never messed with me again...made the dog my (female dog) With that being said lets look at this from a dominant dog or buck or any animal that is dominant in an area. If you have a male dog that is a dominant dog and when you take him for a walk he pisses on everything because he is marking his area and saying this is mine. If you as his owner goes and pisses on that tree that he just pissed on he may leave it alone and say....ok thats dads tree or if he is a dominant animal such as a buck he will go back and piss ontop of your piss to remark it. So my point is. It may help, it may not help
My friend made a scrape 10 yards from his tree and then pee'd in it 2 days ago. 2 hours later, he shot a doe that was standing over it sniffing his pee.
I've always used a bottle because I'm worried about scent. After reading all of this I'll probably stop. Didn't know people pee'd in scrapes. That's a new one for me.
Peed twice the other morning from in my stand and saw 4 does and I shot my buck, which is an extremly good morning for me.
I let ur rip if I have to. Haven't noticed any difference in deer movement, even if the wind is bad. I cant stand holding it anyways. All I think about is peeing and it distracts me too much from my hunting.
Ok I had to go the other night,,I let it rip ina bunch of dead branches to my right 20 minutes later I had a huge Doe shoving her head between the dead branches rubbing her nose in it.. I was laughing so hard under my breath.
i have had always good luck when i had to pee i would see deer shortly after and the deer are not even bothered by it almost seems like they like it
I always pee from the stand when I have to go. I have never had it negatively affect my hunt, until last Sunday. I got to my tree and the two cups of coffee went charging down the pipes and I had to loosen the loins. I did the deed and an hour later a doe came through and smelled the spot. She didn't like it and was looking upwind for a little bit then bolted about 40 yards and continued to feed and graze away with her button buck kid. Sal
