I grew up peeing in bottles, but until a few years ago I learned, from many hunters, that peeing on scrapes actually attracts deer. I started pissing on the ground in front of trail cameras and low and behold my picture volume increased 10 fold. But as many have mentioned on here, you run the chance of getting busted while performing the act from your stand. I may get down from the stand and pee to lighten the sound effect. I mean you can only take pretending to be a squirrel so far, and I doubt a deer will correlate the sound of a gallon bladder being released 20' off the ground onto dried up leaf's, to that of an ounce or two from a squirrel. Jussayn! Either Way you should invest in the Squirrel Shield 2000. http://forums.bowhunting.com/bowhunting-talk/40740-how-avoid-being-busted.html
Peeing in a bottle story..... Last year my buddy and I are in a tree, he was willing to take a couple days and go hunting with me and film me try and shoot a deer. I believed at the time that peeing on the ground would leave my scent and keep deer from coming in. So I pull an unopened bottle of water out of my bag, ask my buddy in a stupid voice, "Hey Travis! Want some water?" He's says no, so I pour out the water and pee in the bottle and stuck it back in my bag. We both stay at my parents, we have to be quiet because my dad is a light sleeper and has to get up early, so we don't have any lights on and are being as quiet as possible getting up and getting ready. I open my bag, feel around, and grab the bottle that I had forgotten about and am ready to throw it away...... When for whatever reason I say in the exact same stupid voice as the night before, "Hey Travis! Want some water?" Except this time, before I can even react he yanks the bottle from my hand, takes, the cap off, and has the bottle up to his mouth. Still aware of my surroundings, I whisper yell at him to stop as I knock the bottle away from his mouth, and it splashes all over him. I recall saying, "Dude, that's my pee!" The best part about the whole thing is it took him a moment to register what had just happened because he was mad for a second because I had just wasted good water!
This weekend, I was hunting out of a ground blind and had to pee twice. I just went and seen two bull moose (40 inches + & 60 inches +). I am not sure if this action is detectable or not.
This debate goes back and forth forever. One thing is certain.... The vast majority of people that DO piss form the stand will tell you that it has never affected deer and have experiences to back this up. And the vast majority of people that DO NOT piss form the stand, have no experiences where piss has scared a deer. Its just their preconceived notion/opinion. Facts are facts. Its fine to pee from the stand.
I've peed enough into mock scrapes and had bucks shoving their noses in them and tearing them up less than an hour later so I don't worry much about where I pee. About the only thing it MAY do is alert them to a whole lotta pee in one spot around a particular tree though which in turn could alert them to you as a hunter if they spend enough time checking things out. However.......I don't recommmend...pooping from your treestand.....
I used to carry a bottle with me but i realized that they aren't scared of our urine. In fact I cam to this decision when I decided to pee in a mock scrape and I saw positive sign in the area.
About the only reason I would pee in a bottle is if I wanted to dump it later into a mock scrape......
If it really attracts deer wouldn't Tinks bottle it up? For that matter, I would just bottle it myself. I have had deer walk by not too long after letting it fly.
Do we really know what is in those bottles? Maybe Tinks has a urine bank where winos can get paid for their contributions.
I agree, unless we see it with our owe eyes do we really know what is in any of the attract sprays, scent blocks etc....honestly in the 70's and 80's do you really think even 10% of people were concerned with them? I don't...shoot there are situations where hunters smoked in their stands and still killed deer...we put to much thought into all this stuff imho, just go Hunt
