"Peace Activists" All too often I hear atheist would-be “peace activists” point to Jesus’ teachings as reason for disarming or adopting a non-violent world political policy. While it is true that The Christ lived a perfect life in every way (including a non-violent approach to life), it is this same group of leftists, who never having read the entire work of the Holy Bible, conveniently ignore the method of The Christ’s second coming to Earth. Yes, peace will reign for “a thousand years” but how is that peace achieved. 1: He resurrects all of the people who have died in this world’s history. 2: He gives all those people a chance to see the Truth and then gives them opportunity to abandon their pagan ways. 4: Even in that day, many people, after seeing the Truth with their own eyes and hearing the Truth with their own ears, turn from Christ and The Word. 3: The Bible uses the very descriptive terminology of Christ wielding “a flaming sword” the edge of which with He will smite all of the unrighteous. If this seems to be non-violence and passivity when dealing with heathen hordes of devil, tree, rock, stream and other false god worshipers, you need to look up what is meant by “smiting by the edge of the sword”. This allusion to Christ’s non-violent behavior while on earth as a reason for our disarmament is only weak rhetoric used on the unknowing to allow the institution of communist/socialist ideologies on an otherwise free people. In EVERY case once those ideologies are founded, the first action taken by those communist/socialist/Marxist governments is to disarm the people. History shows the true nature of a communist dictatorship’s “non-violent” methods. I for one will continue to keep my sword bright and my bodkins handy.
I don’t know, I kind of like it when I can mix politics, weaponry, religion and human nature all into one statement.
"Peace Activists" Nothing but it has everything to do with fat fingers. I have tried editing the title to no avail. K
What the heck, I’ll bite… I’ll preface this like I usually do on these Religious type threads. My ramblings are just that, mine. I’m just some dude on a hunting website. If we disagree on the bible, religion or philosophy, it’s ok. Of course I think I’m right, but in the arena of faith and god, what I think matters little Here goes… While Jesus preaches love, I wouldn’t go as far as saying he was non-violent. Take the money changers for example. Jesus overturned their tables and drove them out. Some accounts of the story involve the use of a rope to drive them out, like you would an ox. On the flip side, I do not see Jesus with a literal flaming sword coming to the earth like some sort of superhero laying waste to the non-believers either. You simply cannot take Exodus at face value. Even when people could talk to Jesus face to face, he constantly spoke in riddles and parables. I don’t think he did this to sneaky so much as to explain the Kingdom of God in terms that us mere humans could possibly grasp. In Ephesians, Paul speaks of the “sword” being the word of God. When I read about Jesus smiting the unrighteous, I can’t help but think of how many times God’s Word has slain the unrighteousness in my heart. I could go on and on, as many of you know, but I’ll hold off for now. I’m not sure how this greatly larger BH.com can handle a religious debate. I foresee them spinning out of control at a quickening rate. Prove me wrong J
Fitz I totally agree with you. Jesus did walk this earth and show us how to live peacefully most of the time and the money changer example is a great depiction of how a God of righteousness and love handles those opposing his kingdom. As far as whether or not Jesus will actually return with a literal flaming sword to smite the unrighteous??? It's hard to say, I believe the words of the bible in their entirety, but the book of revelations is filled with so much symbolism it's hard to decipher what is literal and what is symbolic. It's nice to know there are other believers on this forum. Worshipping the Lord and killing stuff with stick and string. Life is good!
Although, I believe the bible, it's hard for me to say that I believe every word of a book that has been rewritten countless times through stories handed down by countless people. I guess I'm just a realist in that sense. I agree that Revelation is so full of symbolism that I really don't believe that there is a man on this earth that could truly decipher the meaning of the whole book. As far as God coming back with a fiery sword.......I've heard from every preacher that I have come across since being a little boy preach that it will happen any day now. It's been 31 plus years now and I'm still waiting.
