Most morning there is an older guy sitting outside in a house next to where I work. It sits down a little embankment. Early summer I started waving "morning" to him. Once in a while we strike up a quick conversation before I come into work or he will yell "Morning" to me. This morning I get out of the truck, go to the other side to grab some things and come back to the driver side. I look over, wave morning to him, and he gets up and "rushes" to the edge of the embankment. He asks me if I have a garden. I proceed to tell him just strawberries. He asks if I like tomatos and if I'd like some for supper. Something happened to the stalks of his plants and he has to get rid of the ripe tomatoes quickly. He asked what time I get out of work. So at 430 he will be bringing me tomatos...but if he's not here, just go down to the house. I'm not a big tomato eater, but my family is. So I will be taking some fresh ones home. It's the little things in life. The simple wave or hello gives me a smile every morning. Hoping it does the same to him. It's a good day
Thats what life is about right there. Never can be to busy to share a hello and a smile. You never know when that smile and wave can be the best part of someones day.
I think this was the only highlight of my day. I think back to it after all of the "difficult" people I've had today and smile.
Awesome stuff !! If you get a chance , listen to a couple of his stories . One of the highlights of my job is getting to listen to some of the older farmers tell their "back in the day" stories .
Thanks everyone. About 428 yesterday afternoon, this older man, who I found out his name is Al, came over with a bag of six tomatoes. I asked him about how he makes his garden so big and beautiful every year. We chatted for a good fifteen minutes about it. He then offered me some corn for dinner. I politely told him no thanks, just because I already had dinner cooking. I thanked him about a dozen times, he seems very nice. I think I'm going to send him a card or make a little basket of cookies. I hardly ever see his wife outside, so I just want to show them I appreciated it!
