Post pics of one buck you got photos of over the years that you would most like a do over on. Give what ever story you have to go along with it as well. This is easily the highest scoring buck I have ever got trail cam photos of. I saw him numerous times that summer and got a bunch of trail cam photos until the end of September. I never got another trail cam photo of him or saw him from that point on. I luckily found his non-typical shed that winter. I never did see or heard of him again after I found the shed.
You guys must take down the best buck in your woods every year if no one else other than Shultzy and I have a story to tell.
I definitely don't kill 'em all, by any stretch. But, I don't have a pic of anything bigger than what I've taken. I must suck at trailcam-ing (too).
This is the biggest buck I've ever got trail cam pics of. I had him walk by me at 30yds in a bachelor group while scouting one morning. First morning of this season, i had 4 bucks pass by me just before shooting light, he was one of them. Another 5 minutes and he would have been toast. Throughout the season I ran into 6 other people that hunt this 80 acre property, the pressure pushed all of the big bucks to the surrounding property/sanctuary.
The beginning of last season I had a gut feeling what stand I needed to sit in that night. But for whatever reason I didnt feel like making the 1 hour drive that afternoon so I stayed closer to home. A few days later I headed up there and pulled the card to my trail cam and found this... This picture puts him broadside 15 yards in front of my stand. You can see its still fairly light through the trees. The leafs make it appear dark. If I would have listened to that little man inside me, I would have been there. Since then I have no pictures or sightings of this buck.
This guy got killed with a rifle, most likely at night, in a firearms ordinance area about 100 yards from my stand in my neighbors yard and tagged in the town over. All this happened the day before i got to hunt him, needless to say seeing your trailcam buck on facebook on a trailer the morning of the day you were hunting him isn't the best experience.
I shouldn't have passed up on him... I shouldn't have botched up on him and missed... I should have had faith in the spot I choose to hunt the buck that dropped this shed the spring before. Seen him go another direction the first sit... moved over to that spot on the second hunt just to watch him walk right by the first spot. It would have been a 6-7 yard shot. Got busted by him on the walk out from hunting him this year. Hope he is still alive !!! Never got to hunt him this past fall. Hoping he is still alive... Nor him and also hoping he is still kicking... Are you happy Scott. I am depressed now. :D Tim
He is in this video: Friends of mine took a few of these bucks, but, I never closed the deal with my "target"...He's the really tall one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmByPxAZCyU That's happened to me, a handful of times. Really, all you can do is just laugh. No sense in getting frustrated.
For me it is this buck. I know hes not a monster but this is a buck I wanted to kill. I had watched him all summer long and was able to get him on trail camera a few times. I was able to see this buck four times this hunting season. November 2 was a great day for me, I had this deer within 60 yards three different times. On November 7 I was able to see this buck on the ground on my way to hang and hunt a new stand. The story with this buck is pretty plain and simple for me, just could not get close enough, and wasnt in the right tree at the right time. He kicked my butt this year. I have two sits left to hunt, and I'm still hoping for the best. I will be out there tonight and Saturday. We call him Slick.
Probably something along the lines of "DT you must really suck at hunting to have not been able to shoot even 1 of them"
I've posted this photo a few brazillion times but it's always fun to rub salt in the wound... Frank the deer. I shot clean over his back at 10 yards. (there is no smiley that can appropriately convey how much this saddens me.) 10 yards.... I don't use a trail camera any more so at least I spare myself that pain.
They aren't trail cam pictures, but they were taken of him after the '06 season. I have seen bigger bucks than this, but there are very few that make me sick to my stomach like this guy did (it's a pretty lengthy story). Early November 2005 I am an 18 year old kid, and I head out into the public land behind my house. I climb a stand I have hung in a good spot where I always see deer. Around 4:00 that afternoon I watched a great 8 pointer chase some does on the opposite ridge. I quickly got down, and made my move to where I thought they would come by, but I never saw him. The following afternoon, I went and sat on the ground where I had seen the buck the afternoon before. At some point during that hunt I did a very aggressive rattling sequence and looked up and saw the same buck headed my way. I judged him at 30 yards, drew, aimed, and released. I shot under him. I later realized he was standing 37 yards away. Now the next morning I headed back to the stand from the first afternoon. Right at dawn I see a doe heading my way, and I let the air out of her. As I'm watching her die, a stud 10 pointer comes flying by me, offering no shot. Over the next hour I watched several more bucks, including 2 shooters file past me offering no shots. Sometime around 7:30, I wanted to go start taking care of the doe I shot earlier, and I lowered my bow. As soon as I looked up I saw "my" buck headed down the trail towards me. I hurried and raised my bow back to my tree, the buck is 30 yards and closing. I get an arrow nocked, and draw as the buck stands 5 yards from me. He busts me and bolts out. He stood just out of range as he peered in my direction. I never saw him again this year. No 3 day period of hunting could every possibly haunt me more than these 3. December 2006 I hunted hard for the buck, but never saw him. Finals week rolled around for me, and I only had a half day before my first test. I decided to sneak in a quick morning hunt. Right at dawn, I saw a good buck bedded with a doe, but I couldn't tell much about him. As more light came, I easily recognized the buck. It was him, and he was now a 9 pointer. Once again, I left my stand, and was able to stalk within 40 yards of the bedded deer in the snow. A large pine tree seperated us, and I chose to sweep around the short end, and hope the deer moved my way. The plan worked perfectly, but the buck was in clear viewing when he was 50 yards away and I passed the shot. January 2007 The season had just closed, and my sister snapped the pictures of him at the bottom of the post. October 2007 I was positioned on the ground, and right before dark I saw 3 does walking towards me. Behind them was a 1.5 year old 8 pointer bumping them, and behind them was "My Buck" as he was being called. He was still a 9 pointer, and probably pushing 160". He hung up about 60 yards away, and he caught my wind. November 2007 I'm going back to my natural ground blind I was hunting back in October. I head out around 1 that afternoon, and I make it about 80 yards from the blind when I see a buck chasing a doe. I take off running to get into position, but I didn't make it in time. The deer stopped on the hillside opposite of me, and I could easily tell it was "My Buck". He had ran under 10 yards from the blind. January 2009 I caught one glimpse of this buck right at last light towards the end of the 2008-2009 season. He was still a 9 pointer, and I estimated him to be 6 years old. I never saw, or heard of him again. Here are the pics taken of him when he was a 4.5.
Watched this guy all summer in the beans. Got 7 pics of him and he went ghost 2 weeks before the season. Hunted for him and his sheds never to be found. My buddy 2 miles away got 1 pic of him the next summer by his house and he was never seen again.
Scott we have been chasing this buck for 2 years and he went nocturnal due to too much pressure this past season. This is the only daytime pic of him after early october. The kicker is I had shot my deer on the 2nd and if you can see that tree next to the brush pile behind the pine and the buck. Dave had a chain on stand in that tree, but decided to hunt my stand that saturday morning. He wishes he'd have hunted this stand.
