I was hunting across the field from a very active scrape and had 2 bucks in ther field. One was a little 6 pointer that was chasing does and grunting up a storm. The next was a 120+ 10 pointer. He looked good from the side but he was real narrow and not very tall. I had to think too much on him to shoot. I want to shoot the no doubters! Here are some pics of the 2 I passed. The bigger one is blurry, I had just put down my bow and it was getting a little dark.
You know, John......You taught me that very thing last year. You told me, and I remember this quite well.....If you have to think about whether you want to shoot it or not.....Let him go. And you were 100% spot on. When the 130 I killed walked past.....Never a thought of whether to shoot or not even entered my mind. Like you said, a "no doubter"...Respect my friend, respect.
It won't haunt him, he's shot bigger bucks. I passed a 135" 8 pointer Saturday night also. That is tied for the largest I have passed on. That's how you get real big ones!
X2, John has some good deer on camera this year and knows bigger ones are out there. It is also early in the season still
jm- I feel the same way you do about deciding a shooter; if there's any doubt, pass him. I'm glad you took pictures, and it looks like you had a good enough weekend. Good luck the rest of the way.
I'm sleeping just fine thanks. I also know it's only going to get better for the next couple of weeks. And there are some really good ones in the neighborhood. I would have not been happy with myself if I had shot that buck.
It sure Is exciting John letting a nice buck pass, that mid 120's I let by at 15 yards last week felt pretty good. Like Greg said, If you want bigger that's how you get the big ones! Good luck!
John, this is funny how things change. I remember at the first G2G, buckeye ask you if you had a 120" buck come by, would you pass on him, and you said no way. :d BUT you have aquired some good property in ILL now so im sure that was a factor :d send the one you passed my way....he's getting the shaft :d
I don't have enough bow bucks under my belt to let much of anything pass. I guess thay will come with time and experience. The fact that I'm hunting an antler restriction county does help though as I passed a forkie Sunday morning that wasn't legal.
