I admire your ability to let him walk ,the only way to shoot the type of bucks you want is to pass on the bucks that don't meet your expectations, I would be tickled to have that buck walk by me.

Remember justin your hunting some good ground, you have proof of big boys around. You made a smart decision, passing on those mid class bucks will pay off in big dividends for you. I am a very patient hunter, I know there are brutes in my area, so the last 3 years I have passed on deer pushing 130's and this year I felt I was rewarded for it! You have put your valuable time into this sport now just let your patience kick in and you will be good to go, there is still alot of time to go for this season. good luck buddy!

    Thanks for posting this, JZ.

As you know, I think both you and I made similar choices last year and have before that as well at various times. I also know that you and I made the same vow at the end of last year...

You've had first shot at upholding your end of the bargain. Hopefully, this'll make it easier for me to uphold mine.

    Congrats on the tough choice.

The patience and discretion will pay off eventually.

I made that decision 3 years ago after taking a small buck that I shouldn't have. The next year I had a hard time passing up the good 2 1/2s but stuck to my guns and didn't take a buck. Last year it paid off and this year we have a couple slammers walking the woods. Stick with it, time in the stand and passing the little ones are the only way you will get the bucks you want.

nice and tall! i would've shot him but i hunt more off my schedule. i dont feel like i have the time to be able to pass on deer this size, with that being said you might get a second shot.

new leaf? sounds good to me, dont know anyone who has committed themselves to hunting BIG deer mad at themselves.... in the long run at least =-)

Good pass I think. I'm at the same point nowadays.

I have a 200 I'm hunting so every time I have been out this year sitting in other spots - I keep sitting there thinking what am I going to do if a 170+ steps out? Right now I am thinking I will shoot because we all know if you let a buck like that walk bowhunting chances are good you will end up eating a tag. But ask me tomorrow and I'll probably have a different answer. Makes a guy wish his state was not a 1 buck state that's for sure!
