Whats happening team!!! Tomorrow morning I am going to the back 188 to swap cards and do some final lane trims on a few stands. After tomorrow I'll leave the back 188 alone until that early doe hunt on Sept 20th!!! That sounds nice huh? season is right around the corner boys!!!! I am getting pumped. Any guys on the team familiar with food plots? I planted one a little over a month ago. I used round up to kill the weeds, waited, then tilled it up, laid down some lime and fertilizer, then put down some Whitetail Institute Extreme. It is pry only like a 1/8 acre plot. The problem is after we laid down the seed we got absolutely no rain for like an entire month. When we went out there two weeks ago there was nothing! The only spots that sprouted was a small area that looked like the ground was a little lower and water might have pooled in that location. You could still see a lot of the seed, and it didn't appear to be germinated. We have had a lot of rain in the last couple weeks and it has been hot and humid. What are my chances that this plot can still take off?

I wish I could help but I'm no food plot expert for sure. I'm worried about one plot i planted in brassicas that I believe got TOO much rain, it's in a bottom that stays pretty damp already. I'll find out tomorrow, if it's not green then I plan to overseed that plot in a clover mix. Clover will grow in almost any condition and can even be a good late season plot. I've seen deer dig up snow to eat it. Hope one of the others on the team can help more.

8 ball is back! He really is the only buck on camera I wouldn't even hesitate to shoot. The guys that hunt to the North have around 200 acres and they don't shoot any younger bucks. Having 188 acres to hunt now myself, and coming from 32 that I hunted my entire life, make me really want to try and shoot bucks only 3.5 and older.

The plot has sprouted. I think it will come in pretty nice in the next 4 weeks.

Not too happy to say the least. I went today to check camera cards and trim a few lanes to finish everything up until the opener on the 27th. One of our food plots is in the back corner of a corn field that has houses down one side of it. Last weekend while working on brushing in that particular blind. We noticed the new neighbor cutting his grass that was located behind the blind. This house was a foreclose and had been vacant for some time. We went and introduced ourselves and long story short, he's a hunter and said he was going to hang a stand in his back yard which was going to be roughly 30 yards from our blind. He asked if he shot a deer, could he come on our property to retrieve it. I hated the idea of him hunting that close to us, but he was on his property so what are ya gonna do? So today while working on that blind, the guy come up the property line and says " just to let you know, I plan on putting my motor cross track back here and it will come up to about here and I'll turn around. We were standing 10 feet from my blind. Not sure how to handle this situation. It's a super spot and the brassica plot is looking really good. I asked him if he planned on doing a lot of riding during hunting hours and he said, yep I sure am! What an ###hole.

Well went to cabelas to get the last couple things before the season . Picked up some NAP BloodRunner 2s then just some scent killer spray, clothes wash and some new cloves and a new hat. All I need to do is tune the bow to the broadness and I'm ready to put the smack down on a big ole swamp donkey this season!

Sparrowhawk, the big 8 is a beauty, he'll do just fine!

Bearmethod, sorry to hear that. Seems we all have to put up with an A-hole at some point in the hunting world. Shame.

Wisco, been using the Bloodrunner 2's for a couple of years. They're nasty, I've destroyed some deer with them!

That sucks Bear. A lot of dirtbike ATV activity on the property that neighbors my gramps. Sometimes the deer get pretty use to it, but it is frusturating, especially if they are riding during prime hunting hours. How often do you check cams?

About every two weeks. Unless it's in a spot that I can drive up to the camera and not disturb much, then I check those whenever I want
For instance, I have a camera under an apple tree close to the entrance of our property. I don't plan to hunt this stop and it is kind of just an inventory camera location.

I'd say your best bet is to head in there ASAP and overseed with something else. Seed laying that long without germination has little to no chance now. Had the same issue last season, planted and then no rain forever and a day. Even after we finally got some rain, it was just too late. I'd get out and throw some late season brassicas or turnips or radishes in and they should be good. Long as they are couple inches high by the first frost.

The brassica plot I was worried about being washed out looks great! There were a few bare spots from standing water but overall looking good.

Bear, my take on the guy telling you he is hanging a tree stand, then telling you his motocross path is coming your way is: He simply does not want you hunting that close but does not want to come right out and say it. I have had this happen before with other adjoining property owners, they make every excuse they can to keep you away from their property. I have also found out later from one of the other landowners that the person just did not want hunting that close to their property.

I bet if you wait a few months he will talk to the neighbors and you will found out the truth. If I were you, I would not spend anymore time on the ground blind. I would not dismantle it but wait and see what happens. Come dead of winter when it is cold, I bet you will not see hide nor hair of him and the blind will come in handy.

    Just my opinion !!!!

I agree, I'm just not sure how to handle the situation. I feel like if we hunt, he rides, if we don't hunt, he hunts. Hopefully he stops riding when the snow comes.
