But what about a religion that DOES teach it? I understand you want to be open minded, but you have to be rational about it. If they aren't out to kill us and don't hate us, then why would they follow a religion that teaches them to do those things? That's exactly why a few of my friends (former Muslims) left Islam. Whether you are full on into Islam or not, if it teaches and condones it, why follow something that you don't fully believe and follow in it's entirety? We shut down the Nazi Party, which was an ideology, is it because Islam is labeled a religion that you feel it can't be touched? As Skywalker said, "some are radicals and jihadists, while others are just average people, but the ideology doesn't change no matter which end of the spectrum they fall into." I don't pick and choose which parts of the Bible to believe, I believe it all. The biggest misconception that people have about Christianity is that they call us hypocrites because we aren't all the sudden perfect. I strive to be a better person every day and do what the Bible teaches me, but I am NOT perfect and never claimed to be. The biggest thing about being a Christian is admitting that I'm NOT perfect. That's the whole point, the Bible teaches that God is perfect and his sacrifice was for EVERYONE, whether you are a believer or not. The whole point IS accepting that I'm not perfect. Someone who is truly a Christian doesn't think they are better than anyone else or think they are perfect. But unfortunately that's how Christians have been labeled, WE didn't ask for that label.
Do you even realize what you've quoted regarding to context? If not, I will help... This passage is in reference to the societal order of the people (Israel) being led by Moses (at that given time)...and how they are supposed to live by the laws given. Which this passage is derived from. These law's were specific to THESE people.
This helps my point a bit... There were quotes posted from the Quran earlier that condones the killing of non-believers. We do not know the context without reading it.
Umm, it's quite different to have laws applied to the people who actually follow that religion and a religion that teaches to kill anyone who doesn't believe in their religion. I think you are missing something. The context is there, I think you guys are just missing it, which is very unfortunate.
Spear has generously purposed passage from the Quran....if you read them in context, you will get the picture. The same way when you read Deuteronomy in context you get the whole picture.
I thought were were talking about Christianity and Islam, the two religions at subject. What does knowing the context of every other religion have to do with this? The context of the Koran and the context of the Bible is what we are discussing. To be honest, we have hijacked this thread and probably better to start a separate thread. I'm sure those who want to discuss what actually happened in Paris don't appreciate what this thread has turned into, which is religious debate.
Also, I do want to make sure to say before I go. And I mean this 100%: I've stated my opinion and everyone is firmly rooted in their own, which is perfectly fine. This truly was a good and healthy discussion though, I always enjoy these. No one resorted to name calling or anything ugly. So before we all go, as always, just because we disagree on something here doesn't mean it will follow to other topics. God Bless!
I didn't say he was a bad guy, but we're talking about a ruthless businessman here that created and schemed his way to a monopoly in the software business. Seems like those are attributes that most liberals would dispise. Sometimes people change as they get older, and perhaps his philanthropy is in some way to make up for some of the more ruthless things he did in his past.
Since this thread is so far off topic anyway, I'll bite... what ruthless horrible things did Bill Gates do? Did anyone bother watching the video I linked explaining the situation in Syria? All you folks wanting to intervene there, I'm curious as to your thoughts on WHO we take out, WHO we put in control, and how long are we there for? Isn't it just Iraq 2.0 where trillions are spent, American lives are lost, and while a people are briefly liberated... the same chaos ensues the second we leave? Is it worth that again?
The Koran has been rewritten four times to pease different sect and the last update was 1924. The originals were destroyed to keep Muslim from going back to them to check or question facts. To question the koran is grounds to be put to death. Basically the koran is a knock off of the Old Testament. They believe in Jesus but say he did not raise from the dead but the Muslims saved him by switching Jesus with a look a like at Calvary. So I've been told. Kilboars Hunt Club
Absolutely it is worth it. The only way to deal with the terrorist is to keep them from getting a foothold anywhere. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I agree and appreciate it as well. This is how discussions should be held. I would still suggest you read the whole Kuran or at least sit through a prayer session. The best way to have a discussion is to know both sides thoroughly and i believe reading the Kuran will help shed some light weather it is for or against what you previously thought.
