I would be pretty pissed if my kid was trashing me online, so I can understand him being upset. But to shoot the laptop after dropping all that money into it, well....stupid is as stupid does. BTW, props to Vito for not mentioning dads stuttering. :D
C'mon now...I'm not Hooker. BUT since you brought it up, it is hard to sound tough when you're stuttering and can't read big words like "responsibility". Damn kids are so smart these days with their big words.
I was debating posting the video....but this father is taking a very firm approach instead of being left baby siting Grandchildren or taking custody of them from an unfit mother. Also like that Les Baer 1911 Boss .45
Too late for that now She's a kid, 20 years from now she will look back at what she did and feel really bad. Hell I said stupid stuff when I was 13-16.
Far as the stuttering...it sounded more like he was choking back tears of where he'd gone wrong. Yet if you don't do nothing then you will have to deal with something....Remember the video of the Uncle that whipped his nephew and posted it on Facebook. that kid kept acting like a gang banger and a gang member shot him 10 times in the head. Kids need to know there are repercussions to ones actions. A lot of us do not agree and never will, but we all agree doing nothing will only make things worst.
Never too late to break out a stick, leather strap, whatever and give a good spanking. Teaches kids to be good.
No one said not to do anything, but making this video was more immature, childish, and embarrassing than what his daughter did. As a grown man, and a parent, he should know a lot better. At first the video provided tremendous unintentional comedy to me. Then, I started reading the comments and this dude's facebook page and saw all the support. Some even calling him a hero. That just makes me shake my head in disappointment. Sad really. Its parenting that has failed in recent years, not the kids. This is another example of that.
I know that you like to answer your own questions and then add a whole bunch of useless banter just for laughs, but I believe that all the parents that spared the rod and spoiled the child as well as the selfish parents who don't have enough time for their children are the ones who created the entitlement generation. BTW, I don't believe that there is anything wrong with the guy buying his kid a laptop and upgrading it for $130. I have a feeling that by doing so he felt that it would benifit his daughter's future education. After providing for her and her well being, she writes a bunch of crap like that? Sign her up for the military. After a couple of years of that I'm sure she'd change her disrespectful tune. As for the guy...... I thought it was alright and humerous as well. If it was me, I'd have locked all of her luxury items, that she is taking for granted, up in a storage unit. At least until she changed her attitude.
He can't do his job, so pawn her off on someone else? Hey, I'm all for that. No need to take it viral though and act like a child. I don't see how trying to showing up your 15 year old daughter helps in this situation.
You missed my point. I think he was showing her peers how much of a loving caring home she was mocking. He felt in some way that he had to explain himself to the world because she disrupted the family unit to the world. I know parents that would say don't worry about it they would grow out it. Big mistake!! One kid Parent I use to work with in Florida took this approach. The Kid is currently on Death Row for a triple homicide, kidnapping, rape, robbery and extortion charges. Once My dad made me and my brother cut the grass with flashlights, after I cut the front my brother suppose to have cut the back. When My dad got home from work he got us up from bed and made us cut the yard at 11pm. Some by today standards would call that stupid. So shooting a computer multiple times crazy? By the circle of people that surrounds her that's serious wake-up call. I honestly believe whatever it takes to get your kids attention then do it. Unless you want that knock at the door at 5AM with an arrest warrant for a child. Or a late night knock at the door to inform you of you child's condition from homicide detectives. Woman I use to date had that to happen to her. It was so unnerving it brings chills to me thinking of it.
If that was his message, then the video is what they call a "swing-and-a-miss". The dude didn't like getting show up publicly by his daughter. So he one upped her. Very childish.
Matt I am all in with you on this one. The father acted childish, there are better ways to handle things with your kids.
He's suddenly aware of how his daughter has utter disdain for him, and this is how he responds. Should have been thinking of that 15 years ago. Most of us remember the rebellious teenage years. I'm dealing with that now with the boys, and we've had some days that were better than others, but at no point has it devolved into this. The humiliation she is going through now is worse than anything else he could have done IMO. She now has nowhere to turn except her friends who will push her further down this same path. Pretty sad all the way around.
Communicate with your children and participate in their lives. Its pretty simple.....for the unselfish.
