Is it abnormal for a bow not to paper tune at 9 feet. Most of the paper tuning I have done and seen is done at 9 to 10 feet. Mine absolutely won't! At 12 to 15 feet it is perfect. At 20 yards it hits dead on and I mean dead on.

Are you shooting a bare shaft or fletched arrow? I've had a heck of a time paper tuning my bow that would get really frustrating. But ounces dialed it I could shoot my raw shafts out to 20-30 yards accurately with no problem.

I'm guessing the length, spine and energy transferred into the arrow determines when the flexing starts to diminish. Are you shooting a speed bow with a long DL?

Short DL 27" spine is correct for arrows. So that is what is throwing me off. Figures is my own bow. I paper tune everyone else's at 9 to 10 feet and get them perfect. This one at 9 feet tears poorly. But at 12 feet or further it tears perfect. I guess some bows just don't tune up close.

Heck, if you're accurate with your broadheads, why worry?

Do some bareshaft/yoke tune and I bet it comes right in.

Are you talking 1/2" tear ? Less or more ?

How's the tear at closer distances?

    Hey tfox,
I am paper tuning at 9 feet. I receive the same tear no changes in any arrows I shoot, 1/2" tear, nock right, tip left. If I move back to the 12 foot mark perfect bullseye. Closer distance is very little difference. I also have no fletching contact.

What happens if you start at 2 feet or 5 feet? If you've tried that already have you tried walkback tuning first?

Make sure centershot is correct. Either by walkback or french tune. I wiukd use your machine and french tune.

Then bareshaft tune and adjust the yoke accordingly.

Center shot is perfect. I yoke tuned and all shoot the same no inconsistencies. I will throw it in my shooting machine and tune it. Then bare shaft tune.
That's what I get for changing my rest to a qad just before season!! Yeeee haaaaa!!

Thanks tfox and the rest of you.

A 1/2 twist to the tear side of the yoke will probably remove the tear all together.

    Bareshaft will fix all issues.

If it bareshafts, the broadheads will hit dead on.

They should if the papertune is done correctly. There is a little room for error between broadhead and paper but not bareshaft.
