I was thinking about painting my treestands and climbing sticks with spray on truck bed liner. I thought the rubberized paint would help dampen sound and provide traction. I was wondering what other people's opinions were on this idea. Do you think the paint would smell even after airing out outside for a while? Thank you ahead for any thoughts or suggestions!
Sounds like an interesting idea to me. I would try a test sample on a piece scrap metal first and see how it turns out.
I think it would be a great idea, less shine to worry about added sound dampening and traction all good points. I mean its not gona hurt it, shouldnt add to much weight. Give it a try.
I think putting it on the ladder rungs and foot rest area would be alright and the smell will be gone by 2 months from now...it would add a significant amount of weight to do the whole thing. One other thing to consider is the rubberized coating is prob'ly prone to squeaks when shifting your feet esp when wet. I suppose you could put thin coat on without to much weight added but then it won't last as long from what I have seen on the truck beds round here
I think you're right about the smell, but as far as weight goes, I don't think it would be that significant. For example if he uses two cans of the spray on type, that would be less than two pounds if you figure the contents of a standard spray can is 12 oz. I would just experiment on some scrap metal first and see how you feel about it. I like the idea though...
Did that to a couple Lone Wolfs and it turned out fine.... got some gorilla sticks im going to be putting it on this year. Def air out and let the rain wash em down too!
I have actually done that! What I did though was only used the liner on the steping portion and sprayed expanding foam in the sticks! That rubber crap doesnt hold up at all! I then painted it all with a textured rustoleum(2 diff colors to replicate the tree bark colors). Try that and I think that you will be pleased and by using the foam not much aded weight! Let me know how it works. do one set of stick b4 you do all to make sure it what you want! Make sure and let it air outside or in the garage for a couple months. Good hunting
One of the issues I've heard of with the rubberized paint is that if you water does somehow get in, the coating holds it in there and the metal will rust out a lot faster. Not sure how true thaws is, maybe someone else can chime in.
