Kidney stones for me...Get them now and again. Its awful, man was not made to piss rocks! Just not right...
Regarding the contraption on the crank for pulling out the stent ... you are exactly right!!! My doctor said I might not like what he was about to do, but it would only last a moment. Then they put this giant bell looking thing on me, and the doctor said here it goes, and he pumped about a cup of saline up the hole of the talleywacker, and pulled the stent out. Doc said I did a good imitation of a bear. MY GOD that was painful!!! Like a reverse kidney stone. Good thing I didn't have a bow. I was hospitalized for a week, 3 of those days with 106F temp due to a staph infection. Almost went to the great hunting fields in the sky on that one. Just as an fyi, I occasionally get gall stones. They are every bit as painful.
The worst was due to a diving accident on my 20th birthday. You wouldn't know to look at me now 50lbs and 13 years later, but I was at one time in really decent shape and did a lot of cliff and bridge diving and was pretty good at it. I was doing various dives that day off a 3 meter board with a bunch of people watching, I was showing off like an idiot. Ended up pushing the limit a little too far and hit my head on the board. The accident itself wasn't bad pain wise, but it happened about a week prior to my health insurance kicking in at a new job. Lost a LOT of blood, and had about a 4" gash on the back of my head. I had to get staples to put my head back together, and since it was all out of pocket the only thing the Dr. could do to save me money was try and put in the first staple without local anesthesia. I took the first staple without the anesthesia like a champ but it was the most horrific pain I've ever experienced. Needless to say I paid for the shot after the first one. Other than that, I'd have to say when my appendix went bad and had to be removed. It was horrible throbbing pain and they couldn't schedule me for surgery for almost 12 hours.
for me, worst acute pain was kidney failure @ age 18. I went to bed feeling fine and woke up as I fell out of bed from the pain, hit the floor and curled up in a ball whimpering like a kicked puppy. I had to crawl to the phone in my parents room and call for my dad to come home from work early (he worked 3rds.) He took me to the doctor and I threw up all over the floor and passed out. The doctors was across the street from the hospital so Dad fireman-carried me into the ER. I ended up in the hospital for 8 days on dialysis and IVs. Lost about 20lbs. They never figured out what caused it other than some bacterial infection that lodged in my kidney. Worst chronic pain was 4 busted "small" ribs (the lower ones) which also lacerated my spleen. Never, ever get drunk and bet someone that you can "take their best shot to the body" without falling down. I "won" the bet, but could very easily have lost my life. I was a mess. It was 5 months before I could move somewhat normally, and I still feel weird (kind of tight) on that side over a decade later.
that happened to my buddy too. It was so bad he was basically purple. He didn't like us very much that day. Sent from my iPhone
My buddy's a ginger as well; we went skiing in Telluride a few years back, not a cloud in the sky and he forgot his sunscreen. For those that don't know, bright sun + high altitude (no ozone to filter the UV rays) + sun reflecting off snow cover = triple UV dosage. Even I got pretty burned, which rarely happens. My buddy looked like Freddy Krueger. His face was cracked and oozing pus for a week. It was disgusting. I can't imagine the pain he felt.
