Packing truck today for very early departure Thursday morning. I will be hunting my new property in Kansas. First, I have to help out a buddy by doing some upland bird guiding for a few days with my Pointing Lab - Tanner. Gets me a free week of lodging at Tallgrass Lodge (less than a mile from my property) for my actual bow hunt that follows. Will run a semi-live thread once I get to Kansas. Will be looking to take a doe, a buck (if I see a nice one), two turkeys and any coyote that gets in bow range. My bow is a Diamond Razor Edge set at 48 lbs and I'm shooting 100g Slick Trick broadheads. My limit is 25 yards so I assume I'll see a monster buck that won't get closer than 26 yards LOL. Will update soon. Pic of Tanner after a TX pheasant hunt last January.
Thanks for all the well wishes. I arrive in KS Friday evening after about 14 hrs of driving. Silverflicker I will PM this weekend. Thanks. Got to get to bed, only 5 hours sleep last night so shooting for at least 6 tonight!
Made it! Great evening, very tired. Tomorrow I'll get in a little scouting and prep for guiding a group of bird hunters Sun-Tues. Then I get to go after my deer and turkeys. Headed to bed will start posting pics soon.
Did an afternoon sit in the unseasonably hot weather. Heard some turkeys and 'yotes, but no game seen. On the way out crossed paths with a nice 8 pt and a doe at about 40 yards. After that I got my heart pumping when a hen pheasant flushed right out from under my feet! I think I'm tied up until Tuesday afternoon with bird hunters so next post in a couple days.
Sitting in stand on first bow hunt! Bird hunters departed yesterday. Cool morning. Just starting to het light. Looking for a doe on buddy's place this morning...
Nothing but cool air and sounds of forest waking on the morning sit. Changing to my property on evening sit so I can take buck or doe and any suicidal turkeys or yotes.
Just sat down for first hunt on my Kansas property. Hoping to see something even if no shot presented.
Nothing but squirrels tonight. Warm weather and new full moon not helping. Gorgeous night. Photo of moon when I came off stand tonight.
Where you at out here jwp? You running pheasant hunts at a preserve I presume? I think tonight or tomorrow morning's the night. We've got a front coming thru with a 17 degree projected drop in the high temp for tomorrow. Plus should be some light rain and at least cloud cover for that pesky big moon. Best of luck to ya!
WW, just south of Junction city. Helping out a friend at Tallgrass Lodge. Set up on alfalfa and beans tonight. Clouds and wind moving in. Skipped morning hunt to put up some stands and sleep a little.
