It's now law, in PA you can hunt all Sundays during open seasons, with the exception of turkeys and migratory game birds. I've hunted on a couple Sundays that were already open for Sunday hunting before this repeal of the old law, and didn't notice any difference in hunter activity in my area.
Raised in Ohio during the Blue Laws era. Now, I could never understand that you couldn't hunt on Sunday but you could go to a grocery store, restaurant, Walmart, etc. Our society is now 24/7/365 unless it's a Leap Year.
I’m happy they passed this. I just hope the PGC doesn’t get wild and try to charge for a Sunday permit or something. I have a little hesitancy when it comes to believing the PGC doesn’t see this as another opportunity to create another permit.
Curious if you heard that the PGC announced this yet? I know the govenor signed it, but I thought we were still waiting for the PGC to decide if they're allowing all sundays or still going to limit it for this season.
My understanding is it will be effective in early September (60 days after the signing) and the game commission still will determine everything.
So here is the agenda and the normal government jargon on tap for the PGC meeting. Interestingly, this document does not have any sundays set for our traditional late archery and flintlock season.
I don't know how old you are, but for me, growing up in the 60's-70's most everything was closed on Sundays, except maybe some gas stations.
I'm 77 but grew up in Ohio up until 1962. This was in the 50s. Gas stations rotated opening on Sunday so people could get gas when traveling.
Well all my fellow PA hunters, its official now. We can hunt every sunday with the exception of our traditional late season flintlock/archery. Not sure why they decided to not allow it this year but i'm not going to complain too much. Huge win for all of us here. Finally!
