I hunted on the 7th and 8th of november and saw some chasing and rut activity but not a whole lot of it. I am planning on hunting on the 15th(this coming saturday), and I was just curious as to what guys have been seeing in terms of rut activity. I haven't been able to be in the woods much this year (once in october and once in november) because of school so i am not really sure what the rut is like this year. Just curious as to what some guys think in terms of the activity that might be happening this coming weekend(15th)?
I'm over in NE Ohio and I started seeing the first chasing about 2 weeks ago but have seen a lot of good bucks chasing so anytime to be in the woods this week or next week will be great expecially with this good cold front coming from the west and movin your way if your in the northern part of PA, but I would just get out their as much as you can
Im in upper PA. Haven't seen all that much activity. Found a couple scrapes. Had a small buck with his nose down on a mission - but nothing crazy. Husband shot a nice buck - and he was barely swelled up. It always seems rut hits hard when archery is out and we're waiting for rifle. Go figure.
I hunt in Andover, OH, near PA. Last Saturday I watched two bucks chase a doe for about 10 minutes. Never had a shot opportunity but it sure was fun watching her dodge those boys!
Last night the last five minutes of shooting time finally had some rut activity, deer were being chased all over just not in range.
Ya the only bucks that i saw were small six points running around with their noses to the ground. Some of the bigger bucks that were seen on our property(not by me) were just casually walking around and the rut didn't seem to be in full swing
Not seeing too much rutting activity at all in 2c. The bigger bucks don't seem amped up at all. Still seeing them on their feet tho, so that's a plus, but they have just been moving to feed it seems. Hoping it picks up
Im in central PA (4E) and its been a little slow lately. The little bucks are pushing does but no shooters have been chasing like other years, im hopeful this changes soon.
I haven't been able to hunt a whole lot but when I have, I've seen slow activity. There are a lot of younger bucks seeking. We have gotten pictures of some really good bucks in the daylight but we haven't seen them. Another thing I have noticed is that they aren't answering calls at all. I have thrown everything at a couple bucks to see how they responded last weekend and nothing. I think the end of this week will be good. Cold weather and snow should be the formula for some movement. I am probably going to sit all day Saturday and hopefully get one down.
My friends farm is in Andover. I hope to be up there Sunday. I called a buck in 2 Saturdays ago (never got a shot), but last Saturday never saw a deer in SW Pa.
I hunt in 2A and 2b and I'm seeing the same activity as everyone on this thread. It's been slow. I hunted yesterday all day and saw a little 8 come out at 3pm it was nose down scoping things out. That was it.
The only thing that i can think of is that the rut is a little later than everyone expected this year. Because last year on the 7-9 of november there was a ton of rutting activity. 3 good 8 points(for PA) were killed on our land (2g) within 2 days. So I'm just hoping things are starting to pick up now and through the weekend.
Pahunter71 I was hunting in 2G Monday and as I said earlier in the thread the last few minutes had deer being chased all over the place. I figured Tuesday would be even better so I got there an hour earlier to be in the stand and there were deer all over the fields on the drive in there were deer on both sides of the road where I park and as I was tying up my boots I had deer crossing the road 15 yards from me, I got in the stand over an hour before daylight and I didn't see a deer all day. I think there moving at night with how bright its been I am hoping with some cloud cover and this cold front the start moving during shooting hours.
Thats what I noticed as well. During our drive in and out of camp in the dark we saw a huge 10 point, a shooter 8, and another big nine with a split g2. Hoping the end of this week will be somewhat more active
we do alot of pushes/drives on the one property we hunt here in 5D. yesterday i was pushing and jumped a buck and two doe and i could smell him he was so rutted up. other then that i havent seen anything special rut wise. hoping it picks up quick for tomorrow! good luck everyone!
Seeing lots of cruising by sub-legal bucks. Nose to the ground trotting by. I have seen c some chasing also. Im from SWPA
Been very low activity from my observations. I killed a good one last night (11/14) that was cruising and stunk pretty good. Otherwise its been quiet
The buck I shot yesterday was chasing a doe pretty hard, he really stunk too. That was the first chasing I have seen in Pa in quite a few years though.
I went out Thursday in Pa 5B, and did a all day sit and didn't see a single deer, not even in the distance.....then I went out yesterday in Md and saw 6 total, had 2 nice Bucks chasing a doe in front of us 60yds and they were hauling, there was no stopping them lol, 20mins later had (what I thought was a doe coming in from behind me) and at 10yds I drew back and realized it was a button buck so I passed....it's my observation thus far that they are moving in Md and not Pa just yet, at least my last 2 sits each in both states...funny thing is the Pa spot is 13miles away, and the Md spot is 22miles away in different directions of course but separated by only 35miles from each other.....
