Not all Pa residents were created equally, I agree with Early In. Yes the increase isn't welcomed, no one wants to spend more money. But it's the cost of doing what we love to do. Or at least what I love to do. There is no monetary amount to keep me outa the woods, the gratification of hunting outweighs any cost increase. I can't elaborate on the cost increase as to why, contact the state they'll be able to help you out and you can ask them why they do what they do. Also the title was very broad and was not limited to only Pa residents, you should welcome all comments. There are a lot of knowledgeable people on this forum. And I like what Pa has done with antler restrictions and managing the herd, at least in the areas I hunt I have seen a great increase in deer and more mature bucks. Good luck in your quest for more info!

No kidding. To hunt Virginia I pay 111.00 for general license, 86.00 for deer, turkey tags. 31 for archery and if I want to shoot a bear it's another 151.00

But I will pay it because I want to hunt where I grew up.

LMAO...I have talked about being from PA long before you joined here. I was born in Philly and shot my first buck with a bow in Newtown PA.

Well don't ever move to Illinois, our prices go up almost yearly and it's no big secret that the money doesn't go anywhere near back into conservation. I would say how much but honestly idk and don't really care, I'm still gonna pay so not really concerned what a yearly cost of what is probably the cheapest hobby I have. But if had to guess probably 100 to 120 to just hunt deer with a bow and shotgun.

Maybe if you don't want anyone's opinion that doesn't live in PA you should be posing these questions and concerns to some state officals.

WMUs each have their own doe tag allocations, I'm not sure where Pittsburgh comes into play but we are in the 2D/2F area and we went multiple years with zero doe tags because residents bought them all before they were made available to non-residents to purchase. I know that many non-residents quit hunting PA altogether since we couldn't manage the deer properly. I'm sure the decrease of non-resident hunters has contributed to the increase of resident hunting licenses. But, like others have said, I don't find the price to be unreasonable, it's comparative to other state's costs.

I will say this though, PA needs, MUST, open up Sunday hunting.

Does tags go fast thats for sure. I hunt 2d and 2c and depending on the yr sometimes i can only get the tag i send for first. Because the other wmu will sell out before the second rd of tags is open. There is no reason to not allow Sunday hunting. You can hunt some animals on Sunday and of course you can fish but god forbid you try and deer hunt on Sunday. Its crazy and unfortunately i dont see it changing anytime soon.

OK, I live and hunt in this state so I believe I'm qualified to chime in.

The license increase is still only a proposal. Sale of licenses do not start until June 30 for the 16/17 season. However, I have zero issues with paying a few dollars more for my license. Its money well spent and something I live for every year. I spend a great deal of time in the woods each fall so I "get my money's worth" I guess you could say. If they raise it to $29.00 for general and $20.00 for the archery tag, thats still less than $50.00. Even factoring in an antlerless tag, its still less than $60.00 for upwards of almost 4 months of hunting if you choose. Thats $15 a month folks. Not to mention we still rank almost dead last in license prices compared to the rest of the country.

I do believe the PGC is responding to the decline is sales. They've been throwing everything but the sink at the problem over the last 10 years to "fix" it. However, I don't believe it needs fixed. As much as I hate to say it, and at the risk of sounding like some selfish dbag, PA could stand to lose some hunter numbers if it wants to keep populations decent as well as increase the likelihood of bigger rack bucks. PA could never sustain a 1 million hunter number and quality hunting at the same time.

No offense to the OP, but if an extra $20 or so breaks you, maybe you should rethink your spending. If you're passionate about hunting, the extra few dollars, in the grand scheme of things, is nothing compared to all the other crap we spend and blow money on.

If they are spending the $$$ on conservation, I wouldn't have a problem with it. I'm no longer a resident or land owner there, but I was for quite a while and hunted there for the better part of 15 years.

I pulled out of PA hunting when I owned property there and had exclusive access to 130ish acres. License fees had nothing to do with it. It was primarily because of the no Sunday hunting thing. Add in a culture of trespassing and poaching, it made things just not worth it to continue hunting there even though we had a killer spot. I had people trespassing all the time, stealing our stuff, and I could only hunt one day a weekend. Just not worth it in my opinion. If those things weren't happening though I would have gladly paid double the license fees for he opportunity to hunt there.

Pittsburgh has unlimits tag for sale.

the only reason they up the fees is because of the lost of sale for tags.

Think fees are bad now. Wait till Trump is elected. I hear he's gonna up the prices even more to fund TotUS.
