I am accompanying my wife on a job interview in Indiana, PA on Tuesday. Do any of you guys have any idea what life is like around that area? Quality of schools? Quality of people? Crime rates? Good areas to live? Although I love hunting, the hunting in the area will not play any role into my decision as to whether my family will move up there if my wife is offered the job.

    Thanks guys.

Indiana is a pretty nice place. It is a medium size town with IUP in it ( Indiana University of PA). There are some bigger high schools in the area. Lots of good sports high schools there. I don't hear of a lot of crime around there especially being that close to Pittsburgh. To me it seems like a pretty good place to live. Good luck with the interview.

IUP is where she will be having her interview. In the athletics department. A couple of years ago she was offered a D-1 coaching job and we could just not swing it financially. I still feel real bad about that and vowed to never let it happen again if the situation presented itself. Although IUP is DII, it is still a good job, one that would help build her resume and strengthen the possibility that she moves up in the ranks. College coaching is like any other tight knit community. You have to get your foot in the door and that is the hardest step.

We shall see. This is going to be wild if she is offered and accepts. I will have to continue working here, and travelling up there about 10 days a month to see my kids and do other things. Like I said, lots in the works here. Stress! hahahaha

Thanks guys for all the suggestions and comments.

Yeah if you make it up here during October or November, then we could get together and hunt with Fuzz and anyone else that wants to join. There are a couple of large public land areas within driving distance.

Yup, I live in Indiana. Overall it is a great little town. The schools are decent and the crime rate is low (beside the typical underage and public drunkeness from IUP students). The only real problems right now are a lack of jobs and an insane increase in heavy drugs (crack, cocaine, and heroin). IUP treats their employees very well with some really good benefits. I know hunting isn't a contributing factor BUT there is a lot of great areas with minutes of down town Indiana that hold some awesome hunting opportunities, as well as great fishing spots too. Being in law enforcement, there are three different police depts (state, boro, and campus) as well as the county jail and a maximum security prison all within 10-15 minutes of campus.

BucK Magnet, I really appreciate you taking the time to help me out. I will pass on the information to my wife. We are seeing a surge in heroin and cocaine use around my area as well. Not fun. I will be up there on Tuesday morning with my wife. THANKS.

    Brett

It's no problem. It really is a nice town. The drug problem is bad, but on a bright note crime hasn't really picked up because of it. There really isn't too much good shopping in the area, but Greensburg and Monroeville are about 45 minutes away and both have good malls. There are a few nice restaurants on main street (Philadelphia street) which is just minutes from campus. There are a bunch of houses for sale in town now, and the only areas to avoid would be "Chevy Chase" and anywhere close to frat row on 6th and 7th street. The area right outside of town is very rural yet only 10-15 minutes from campus. If your wife gets the job and you ever do decide to hunt here I can get you in touch with several farmers that have some good property as well as some really nice public land that produces some great 140-150" bucks every season. As far as fishing, Yellow Creek State Park is about 15 minutes from campus and has some good bass and pike fishing. Keystone Lake is about 25 minutes away and is one of the top musky lakes in the area, and as far as trout fishing, Yellow Creek (6th Street and Ferriers Run) is just minutes out of town and is a beautiful stream. If you have any other questions feel free to PM me and I'll try to help you out as best as I can.

Thank you Buck, VERY much appreciated. We are going to head up late Monday night and spend the night before her interview Tuesday. I honestly have no pulse on her chances, other than they typically only have about 2-3 people they bring on campus for interviews. At that point they are in the final mix to be offered. We shall see. It would be a massive adjustment for my family.

Good luck Brett! (Well tecnically Brett's wife)
About all I can add is that I've fished many of the places Jason has and the area in general is pretty nice. I don't get over to Indiana quite as often as I used to. It's about an hour or slightly more drive for me.

Long day today. He said he will let her know as soon as tomorrow if she is offered the job. We really like the place and all that my wife's job would entail of she were hired, BUT we hate that we would be moving our kids away from their entire family. I am telling you this is rough. We shall see.
