Can you buy a elk tag over the counter in PA. How much does it cost to do so?

It's a lottery system, that's nearly impossible to win.

With that said, the only hard part of shooting an elk in PA is getting the tag. Because of them not being hunted for so long, the challenge of getting one after you get the tag is about has tough as shooting a refrigerator that's sitting in the middle of a field.

I apply every year. It's a lotto. It's ten bucks to apply.

Tony, I go up several times a year just to see the elk, it is an amazing sight...some of the biggest bulls hanging out without a care in the world. I plan on heading up again within the next two weeks to get some pics of them.

Tony, get there in late September and plan on spending the day. It's really an amazing sight and amazing country up there. I'm about 1 1/2 from Benezette and go up several times a year to hike and prowl around. There are elk all over the place. If you decide to go up in the warmer months and hike around, pay attention to where you're walking. Lots of rattlesnakes laying around.

    It's worth the drive.

My in-laws live in Elk County, PA and I usually make 1-2 trips out there each year. To date, I have seen more ELK in PA than I have DEER. This includes a lot of driving back and forth from DuBois to Pittsburg and DuBois to State College multiple times. I swear, there isn't a single deer in that state.

The elk are pretty easy to find a regular basis though. I've seen some pretty nice bulls over the years. Pretty cool stuff. :tu:

I believe you have to be a certified guide, though.

Greg, you ever draw a tag and I'll be more than happy to "guide" you. But you're dragging it. I'll hold your bow.
