2017buck.jpg Well guys, its been the toughest season of my hunting career by far. Just nothing went well this year for me. From wounding a deer in Missouri, to having several target bucks killed during rifle season, its just been a season that I will be glad to see come to an end. However, I really have been quite fond of late season the last few years. Its quiet, the deer are back to normal and its just a nice time, albeit cold as all heck, to be in the woods. With a fresh coating of snow Christmas day, I couldn't wait to hit the woods.

I climbed into the tree around 2pm and was almost immediately rewarded with deer all around me a half hour later. This guy just happened to find his way under the stand. While I'm a horn hunter, I had to get the monkey off my back and "right the ship" so to speak. My first late season buck and honestly I'm damn proud of him. I feel like I earned this one!

So, a few other things about this hunt that is noteworthy, at least for me. First off, I used the Tactacam for the first time and it performed remarkably well for what it is. Secondly, I switched my sight out after season for a Spot Hogg Fast Eddie single pin slider. It too worked out beautifully. Finally, I switched heads to a Rage Hypodermic +P. It obviously did the job as the deer made it 50 yards and piled up.

Quick picture below and a link to the video from the Tactacam. I edited the video to slow down the shot so as to see the arrow flight decently.

Love the video, thanks for sharing. And you know as well as me its not the size of the buck, but the hunt itself! Congrats job well done.

Way to stick with it! Be proud of that deer, thus stuff isn't easy.

Nice work! This late season is going to be tough mentally. This weather isn’t supposed to break for over a week.

Very nice, congrats! The tactacam does a pretty good job, looks much better than the Gopro for hunting. I regret not having a cam this year, I could have had some really good footage.

Awesome! Congratulations man! I just got a Tactacam for a Christmas and that just gets me fired up to get out there and try it.

I'm very pleased with it. What I like is how dead simple it is. When I saw the deer, he kind of caught me a little by surprise. When i reached for the bow, it simply had to tap the power button and grab the bow all in once motion. Simple. Then, just point the bow at the deer and follow him with it. Its funny, if you watch, there was once instance that I almost came to full draw on him, when you saw the camera rise up. The POV deal with this camera is pretty nice I think. Just don't expect crazy good shot footage. But, i'm going to experiment a bit in the off season to see if I can settle that down any better. Its just a really nice, fun little camera that is reasonably priced and does a good job for my needs.

Very nicely done. I too am growing more fond of late season hunting. There's just something about being out there in the really cold temps with snow on the ground that's relaxing and enjoyable. Freezing and uncomfortable at times, but still enjoyable. :tu:

Great job! I think any buck in the late season is a trophy, and the video turned out really well too.
