I used to be a scent control nut. Years of experience has taught me hunting the wind is 10 fold more important than scent lok or ozonics or changing into my clothes out in a field at 4:30 am in a 33 degree rain. The past few years although I still shower wash my non scent lok clothing spray my boots with scent killer normal precautions my success has actually increased by simply taking note of wind direction and hunting accordingly despite not being as fanatical about actual scent control.

Paying more attention to the wind thermals ect and putting less emphasis on eliminating odor has added to my enjoyment "aka" not looking like a clown dressing out in a field or yelling at my hunting partners for walking inside wearing their hunting clothes" as well as my success has stayed equal or increased!

I have been a big non advocate of all the marketing ploys about scent control for many years. I have tried most of them at one time or another (not ozonics) and have observed lots of deer behavior with and without. Based on real field observations along with common sense(scent dogs, etc), I do not believe in their effectiveness. Wind thermals, rut crazed bucks, and young deer are the reasons for deer being downwind of me undetected, not some magical spray or overpriced garment.

It sounds as though you have come to similar conclusion, so why are you still a "scent control nut"?

It looks like you have come to a similar point, so I have to ask why are you still a "scent control nut".

I don't care how intelligent you are, if you're approach is poor you lose respect and reputation from everyone. Chago you got the goods, the knowledge and the expertise...deliver with class man. Sticks is a good guy, to treat him as any other is just poor choice.

Chimney effect, I absolutely love hunting spots with this active feature. Bill Vale blew my mind with this idea and now I look for them constantly. We were walking my one hunting property and he said this area is perfect and in a calm wind you scent is gonna go straight up. It was a thick woods with a spot that had 2 trees recently fall causing a small diameter opening....sure enough when any thing would hit that spot it would slip right up into the air and out of the woods like a chimney. Obviously if wind is calm and thermals are falling this can work against you but 9 times out of 10 this feature is one of my biggest allies when hitting the woods.

I only have one or two stands to hunt, so hunting the wind is tough for me to do.

Instead of just not hunting due to a bad wind, I'll take my chances by spraying down and hope that I don't get winded.

Not everyone has the option of hunting the wind due to lack of stands or how their property is laid out.

I understand where you are coming from but challenge you to take a look at some local public land or ask a few local land owners for permission to hunt. Having more options will only add to your success.

FWIW I have been busted by deer but that was before I started a scent reduction routine. Since then, i have not had a deer wind me and bust.

And the mature buck I killed actually DID smell me, but he wasn't sure what I was. He kept wanting to come past me, then raising his nose and turning back, and then coming back and sniffing again and again. I was convinced i was busted but that indecision it put in his nose gave me a window.

Public land is a last resort and getting permission around here is tough.

I have a couple of different properties to hunt, so it isn't like I only have one option when it comes to a place to hunt.

I know for a fact Goose is working on this. I've also already decided if I ever find a spot big enough and he wants I'd share a hunting spot with him, seems like a great guy! **If it's inbetween or more down by him (I got a brother in Odon...closer to him).

That's all we can hope for, had a couple do the same thing. It is not that we're going to make ourselves undetectable, but we can make ourselves smell less and trick them to thinking it's to faint to be fresh.

My issue with asking someone new for permission is that I don't want to be the guy that asks about hunting, gets permission and never makes it to the property.

I'm the type that tends to get comfortable in a spot and if you're after a certain deer in one spot, why would you risk him walking by your stand while you're on a different property?

Thanks, tyni. I appreciate the kind words. The Odon Locker has marinated turkey breasts that are out of this world.

Yes they do!!! I hear ya on the property thing. I struggle with this as well, but as of right now while I have permission from 4 different land owners I really only have two locations as 3 of the owners are small lots which surround the homestead property. I feel 2 spots is good but working on a 3rd and a 4th as I'd love 3, and currently have nothing near my home or on my way home from work, everything is 30-50 minutes away.

Understood, I however have found personally hunting the same area to often can result in less success. Some of my best bucks have been deer I never knew existed in and around the Rut.

I don't remember saying a scent control regimen is not a good idea? I don't know why you quote me then write that rant. I too shower before every hunt, keep all gear washed in scent free detergent and keep them in a tote. I spray myself down and try my best not to sweat when I'm normally a sweater. All I said was my knowledge of ozonators and the technology I know that a ozonics is not at all helpful.

I'm sorry if it came off that way. But the guy your saying is a good guy walked into the thread that was just everyone offering opinions, by saying none of you know anything about ozone and how it works. So I was offended by that because I do know a lot more then him based on his opening post. So I retaliated. If I put him in his place in a style you don't like I apologize. But I didn't like his snuffy approach to the thread with a , excuse me you all know nothing I know everything style. Styles clash.

Put me in my place?? Really?? You sound like an egotistical fool! I made one statement you didn't like and it got your panties in a wad! Go take a Premsyn, change your tamp ax, put on a heating pad and shut the hell up! Your being a jackass to every person who post something YOU don't agree with. I hope your time I short lives on this site.

I apologized for saying what I did but, you sir will not get the satisfaction of that again!! Good day!

Quite honestly. I would love to be personally challenged by a ozonics rep. Anyone, and I mean anyone who works directly with ozonators and understands how they work. Would laugh at the idea of using ozone in a open environment period. Let alone to fool a nose that's 10000 times stronger then humans. I may be coming off as a guy saying just listen to me I know what I'm talking about. But seriously anyone, anyone!!! Would laugh at this. Ozone has zero effect in a open environment and ozone 100% has a noticeable smell. So if the ozonics produces so little ozone you can't even smell it, makes it even less credible. If the ozonics was blowing like a tornado wind of ozone at you in a open environment I would still doubt it's effectiveness in a outdoor environment. Let a lone a little fan. Seriously this premise is based on using a fancy unit to make people believe it works because most have no idea what a ozonator is. It's great marketing.

Either way you guys make whatever choice you want, some guys say you need a 300 class rifle for deer??? Buy what you like. I would be more then happy to have a rep from ozonics put my foot in my mouth. I would live to see a panel of people in various industries who use ozonators who know nothing about hunting test them.
