I agree on five guys. I just don't get them. My burgers at home are much better, and come with a cigar. BWW is only good because they carry all of the NFL games. No other reason at all. In N Out is hard to type, and has great burgers. The fries suck. Applebee's was great until they changed the menu a few years ago. I love Chili's. Best chips and salsa in town. Give me a mom and pop restaurant any day. They are often much better. The best is still my BBQ on the back porch. You all need to join my there sometimes. Bring your own cigars.
Wow, I didnt see this going 7 pages in a day. I only scanned things but couldnt help but laugh (and feel old) with the comment about Quaker Steak & lube being "only an Indiana thing". It's roots are actually in Sharon, PA and I'm old enough that when I first started going there, it was the original, and 2 express locations...that's it. And although chains are supposed to be the same across the board. You really can get a LOT of variation from one location to the next. Some places listed, I've had nothing but good to say. Others nothing but bad, and still more it just all depends where it was.
Moral of the thread - BH.com hates most chain restaurants and LOVES food. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Correction The Internet also has an IQ of 140, makes 250K/year, has a hot wife, drives expensive cars, has never broken any law, regularly donates time and money to charity and never, under any circumstances, does the wrong thing.
I have lived in Indiana all my life and never heard of Quaker Steak and Lube. I take that back, I think I saw it mentioned on the Food Network when they were talking about places to eat in Pennsylvania.
there's been one near Portage IN for quite a while, and there's a newer one in Ft. Wayne. An Indiana state trooper told me about the one in Portage years ago, made it sound like it had been there forever. Plus the exterior looks sort of like a 50s roadway diner. When you go inside there's all sorts of kitschy Indiana memorabilia so I figured it was a Hoosier thing.
Rybo is right on. I grew up about 20 minutes from the original quaker in Sharon Pa. I remember going there as a kid for the first time in the late 80's. I was probably 8 years old, so1988 or so. All through high school everyone would go there on tuesday nights. You would literally have to wait hours to even get inside. But, most of the fun was had outside in line meeting chicks and messing around with your friends.
I actually like Cracker Barrel. Usually order off the breakfast menu. It's cheap, get tons of food and is usually pretty fast. We spend many a night there after my daughters softball games.
contrary to what you downstaters' publik skuls teach, the northern Indiana state line is not 1 mile north of Indianapolis. and as everyone from the Ft. Wayne area knows, anything south of Indianapolis is really Kentucky.
The problem I see is the expectations we hold for chain restaurants. I know that going into a chain such as a Buffalo Wild Wings that it will probably not be the best wings I have eaten. I usually go for the plethora of big screens surrounding the bar. The most overrated restaurant I have been to was a steakhouse in my hometown. This place was known for having great food but also being very pricey. For the record I do not mind paying more for very good food, unfortunately the food my wife and I had was no better than what I have had from a Texas Roadhouse. Luckily we were given a gift certificate for this place and it did not actually cost us anything.
