So I bow hunt mule deer and hopefully I'm going to start bow hunting elk also. The terrain and cover I hunt in is tough mountainous with vegetation that's one about 5 inches tall. So she. You stalking you have to be as silent and as invisible as possible. If I take a shot and miss (it happens) or I am stalking and don't want to knock an arrow yet because I of the crawling I have to do; I hate having to pull an arrow out of the quiver mounted on my bow it makes a lot of noise and its a pain in the but because its not a smooth motion. Does anyone else have this issue? I'm considering getting a over the shoulder quiver but I don't know how they would work when belly crawling or when in stalking situations. Does anyone else hunt with those and how well do they work?
Pain in the butt. Noisy, noisy, noisy...arrows always getting stuck in tree branches and brush; you make too much movement removing arrows from quiver....did I mention really noisy? A bow quiver is way better to use or a cat quiver (cat quiver also requires too much movement to remove arrows, IMO).
Highly recommend a Tight Spot quiver. Yes they are expensive, yes they are worth it, and yes they are 100% awesome. They fit so tight to your bow that it really doesnt snag on anything. Its quiet, adjusts so that your arrows dont hang off the end of your bow, you can tighten the grippers so that your arrows dont pop out by accident...After a weekend of walking through the woods and thick brush, i am completely in love with mine!!
You can get some PVC pipe and cap it on the end. Tie a gear bag strap to it and throw in a dozen arrows. That is sure to result in tag soup. All kidding aside, put em on your bow and there are decent quivers to attach to your pack if you do some digging. If you are concerned with closing the distance brother all you need is one arrow and your bow. If you are Lucky enough to get a second shot then pull another arrow off your bow. Just my 2 cents...Good Luck!
I have a quiver rigged to the side of my backpack with the Fletcher's down for that reason and its easily accessible.
