I recently found out that an outfitter bought the property next to the hunting property my dad and I own. I went though the pros and cons of this and I actually liked the idea until my uncle stopped by the property to check on some things for us. He told me that the outfitters put up a stand about 10 yards from my favorite stand. I live 4 1/2 hours from the property so I won't be down again until May. When I get down there should I just suck it up and move my stand? Or should I talk to someone at the outfitter and try figuring it out? I don't want to ruin any possible relationship with them. The previous owners allowed us to access the property to enter stands easier and to track deer.
Id say you should talk to the outfitters for yourself since 1) They are new neighbors and it would be good if you introduced yourself and make sure theyd allow you to track deer onto their property and 2) Ask them politely about that one stand, i mean you were there first and im sure if they had a hunter come in and sit that stand, 10 yards away from another hunter, that customer wouldnt be happy with the outfitter, plus dont outfitters have hundreds of acres? Does he HAVE to place his stand 10 yards from yours? Good luck.
That sucks but I have to agree. For now just go and be neighborly and see what happens. Might workout just fine for you. If not then decide how to handle it. Good luck! Worse case you can always pick Illinoishunter102 and I up on your next trip down and we can handle it for you! Of course you would have to let us hunt your land afterwards!
i would ask them to move it and if they dont keep ur stand there remeber there the ones getting paid to get there customers deer and if ur there and the deer walk by u first and u get it or they smell u and spook so there customer dont get deer out of that stand they will move it eventually
Definitely talk to them to avoid any confrontations later. Who knows... you might gain access to their place. The two stands that close together may require some compromise on their part... You were there first. Could they see your stand when they set theirs up?
I would try to be a nice neighbor, and ask them to politely move the stand. If they dont... Well.. who said you had to be nice in the first place...
Take the high road try and make friends but sounds like both of you are hunting too close to a property line for my comfort. But i will say of the one guy i know that has a outfitter next to his ground in your state get ready for trespassers clients of his may not care about fences even if he does. best of luck
Yeah, I'm personally not a fan of hunting near lines just because I couldn't sleep with myself if I ever gave into the temptation of shooting across it. I concur on the trespassing thing, DEFINITELY MARK THE HECK OUT OF THE PROPERTY LINE SO THEIR CLIENTS KNOW WHERE THE BORDER IS. Let the outfitter know though of course, good relationship with an outfitter could pay big dividends for you though.
My opinion is that you both are in the wrong. This is why I do not hand stands close to the lines. Sets a bad tone with neighbors and if you do shoot one they cross the line with ease. They might have done it to deter you????? I would say go talk to them and try and work something out. Most likely you both will be moving stands.
I normally wouldn't have a stand that close to the line, but since we had such a good relationship with the previous owner it wasn't an issue. I'm thinking i will talk to the new owner when I get down there and see what we can work out. If that doesn't work then I may need the services of the guys that were so generous as to offer up some muscle in exchange for a hunt haha
Good luck man. I had the same situation happen 5 years ago, and it's gotten worse every year. Trespassers, shooting across property lines, stealing my cameras, you name it. If they don't move their stand, I would continue to hunt it. It's only going to look bad on them when they send a paying customer in to hunt next to you. Hopefully it works out better for you than it has for me.
well,i have an outfitter that leases the ground next to my hunting land and can honastly say the hunting has gotten better,if i shoot a deer that crosses the property line i just give him a call and either himslf or one of his guides comes and helps out,his name is joel snow, he has a top notch operation.stan potts, tom miranda, greg ritz all come and hunt with him.so just try and work together and everyone benefits from your situation.
Hey if you don't need us I would still be happy to come down and hunt with you! Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk 2
That would be cool if some of these properties I'm working on getting pan out! Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk 2
Try befriending. If that doesn't work, explain the stand thing and if they don't volunteer to move it, drop it. If it's on their land, even though it is totally crappy deal, there's nothing to do.
