How many people on here are true outdoorsman or just like the stick and string? I my self am an outdoorsman, I hunt, fish, and everything in between. Whether its sitting on the bank of a public lake at 1 in the morning, stalking a whistle pig in the middle of an alphalfa field or just steppin' on some brush on the field sides waitin for something to jump out and pretty much anything in between.
Hunt everything I can, rifle, bow pistol and shotgun. Fish as much as time permits. Figure out how to keep the wife from being pissed about it the rest of the time.
I used to live to fish, trap, pick seng, coon hunt, and chase small game. Deer season was just what I did in deer season. In order to focus on the caliber deer that I'm currently focused on, I've virtually hung up the rods and matic, packed away the shotguns, sold the coon hounds and practically every Victor I've ever bought. Nowadays, I soak almost every spare minute into locating big bucks. It wouldn't be that way if big bucks weren't spread so incredibly thin in my neck of the woods. If I had access to areas that were thick with booners, I'd spend more time fishing, trapping, etc. I didn't forget how to do all that stuff...and the fire still burns. I just don't have time. I still consider myself to be one of the top turkey hunters in the Commonwealth, and a huge part of who I am is based on being a good steward of the land, and making sure that I do my part to protect every blade of grass that I can get in front of. I spend hundreds and hundreds of hours outside every year, but I'm lucky if I have a bow in my hand for 25% of that time. So, I guess that makes me an outdoorsman, and not just a hunter. I'd probably live in the woods if my wife ever threw me out. LOL
I find something to do in the woods or on water any chance I get. From bowhunting, shed hunting, morel hunting, fishing, and boating. That covers year round and could live in it if I could 24-7!
When I was younger and had more time, no family and didn't give a sh** about anyone but me, I did everything I could outdoors. I bass fished almost every day and when I wasn't fishing I was doing something out doors such as hiking local trails, riding ATV's (I know many do not see that as outdoorsmen type) and stopping to enjoy nature while riding, went trout fishing some, camping some and just did anything that I could to be outdoors. Now that I have a family that I enjoy spending time with, being a full time student, looking for permanent employement due to a lay off and having to manage my time more carefully, I guess I would consider myself only a deer hunter. That is what I enjoy the most and have decided to spend my time and effort prefecting my skills for that. Once done with school and my boys are old enough I will spend more time outdoors with them doing all of it. Short answer at this point in my life, deer hunter.
A compound Is a stick and string? Just razing ya some LilSiman. :D I only bow hunt but I really enjoy the outdoors as well. Not often will you see me Inside during the summer, fall and spring. My job Is also an outdoors type job. Fits my personality of loving the outdoors.
Definitely an outdoorsman, even though I don't spend as much time in the woods or on the water as I use to or would like to. My childhood and adolescence was split between running through the woods after deer, rabbits, squirrel and any other game animal that was edible and sitting on the riverbank or in a boat fishing. I was practically Huckleberry Finn, complete with atrocious back-woods grammar, bare feet (when I could get away with it) and even a home-made corn-cob pipe. While other kids in high school were partying, I was out there in the great outdoors. I joined the Navy at 17 years old, and for some reason I didn't really do much hunting during my 24 and a half years on active duty. When I retired in 2008, I picked up as close to where I left off as I could. With six kids, the mortgage and all the financial obligations that come with them, I naturally can't be like I was all of the time, but when I hit the woods.... I'm 17 again and loving it. I just wish I could run like that again.....
Bowhunter. Though I'm kinda like Quik. I'd bet money that I spend more time outside just solely pursuing whitetails (scouting, shed hunting, hunting) than the majority of "outdoorsmen" do, being "outdoorsmen".
I am a bowhunter. I like to fish as well. I spend time scouting in the woods. But that does not make me an outdoorsman. Let me tell you about an outdoorsman. I watch people and the small things they do as those small things represent that persons true abilities. I had the pleasure of hunting with Gri22ly a couple of days. One morning we were walking to set-up in the complete darkness when Josh bent down and said "hey is that Ginseng?" He stopped and plucked a leaf/root/whatever and said, "guess not". Anyone that can be walking full speed in the middle of the dark with nothing but a flashlight and still pick out what could have been wild Ginseng is a darn outdoorsman. I am not an outdoorsman.
Outdoorsman, without question. I drive nothing but trucks, love ATVs, fishing, camping, love working outside, grilling out, hiking, boat riding, etc. I even rifle hunt. I'm not sure anyone on here does that as everyone seems pretty much strictly bowhunters.
grew up hunting/fishing/camping and love every minute of it. just glad i have the time to do those things again.
That's what I'm talkin' about. I'm curious about something here. For those of you who spend a considerable amout of time in outdoor pursuits like hunting and fishing but don't consider yourselves "outdoorsmen", exactly what is your definition of an outdoorsman?
I consider myself an outdoorsman, but I wish I was more of one. Bowhunting probably takes the lion's share of my activities, but fishing is up there, as well as hunting other critters with other weapons. I'd really love to run a trap line again someday. Some of my earliest memories are tagging along on my Dad's line.
Outdoorsman I guess , I do a lot of bass fishing, But bowhunting controls my life, I have to say I think about it every freaking day. And probably shouldn't
