Here are just a few my partner, Jeff Kaye, and I took over the weekend. I run a Canon 60d and he has a Canon 7d.

We really love the super cheap canon 50mm 1.8 lens. Its a Prime lens, which means there is no zoom and youl need to move yourself to get the shots. For about 130 bucks you can have a great sharp macro or portrait lens that you wont feel as bad if its damaged.

Yep, the nifty fifty is sweet. Great portrait lens.

Was just curious...saw the lens in your profile pic and was wondering about that.

The lens in my Profile pic is a 70-200 2.8 made by Tameron. This is my hunting partner, Jeff Kaye's lens. Love this lens too but too big to bring in the tree with us. The other camcorders take up enough space...

My wife and I just got each other a 7D for christmas...it came with a 28-135 IS. Great lens and I clearly have a lot to learn about this camera....was looking at the 100-400 for my tele-zoom. What lenses you guys suggest?

100-400 is solid, but also consider the 300mm F4, and the 400mm F5.6. Both are tack sharp, and each paired with a 1.4ex, gives you great reach.

This is what I was looking at. 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM Telephoto Zoom Lens

    What would you suggest instead?

As for an extender....I see the 1.4 and 2.0 are the same price...which one to get?

Yeah, the 300F4 and 400F5.6 are prime lenses. They're more sharp than the 100-400, but you do lose some versatility of the zoom.

Regardless of TC, you lose two stops with the 2x (so you're F5.6 @400mm becomes F11), plus you lose auto focus.

The 1.4x will cause you to lose one stop, but autofocus will still work with the 300F4 prime.

There's a guy over on AT in the photography section (Ohiobuck) who shoots with a 300mm/F4, and they are some GREAT shots.

I've rented the 100-400L....it's very nice.

That lens, and the Canon 10-22 are the next of my hitlist. Will be picking up a 50 1.8 just because it's so cheap.

that last one is the result of a deer hitting my car at about 60mph and has now left me car-less.
