I am curious from those of you that do a lot of filming how do you organize all of your raw video footage? I was just going through my files and have no idea where any of them are because it downloads them to my computer based on when I take them off my camera. Makes it impossible to find any specific raw video I might be looking for. Do you organize them in files based on location, date, content or something else? I am looking to do alot more filming and video editing this year and know the importance of filler video but confused on how to manage that process.
I have a huge external HD that I use for all video and photos. Keeps it off my computer, so it saves space too. I really "trim the fat" with my video. If it's good,I keep it, if it's decent, I get rid of it. This is hands down the easiest way. I used to have tons of garbage footage, and it made finding the good stuff, hard. Also, I just write what is in the clip, in the title with date. Example: 10/16/11 - Cloud time lapse, muddy review, does in bean field. I then organize them based on date of uploaded, for easier finding.
I am similar to ICALL2MUCH in that I use an external drive with dedicated folders for what is in each project to pull from. However, I keep a lot of footage that I probably will never use. I even keep mistakes during interviews in case I ever decide to do outtakes. That's just my nature though, I'm kind of a pack rat.
I have so much video in different spots. I have an external drive. Time to just start organizing! Sent from my T8788 using Board Express
