Look, I said it was harsh. But lets face it, in the natural world its survival of the fittest. As outdoors people, I think we can understand that.

If it makes me a bad person for bringing it up, so be it.

Yup, that's the way natural selection works. Very few kids die of say, chicken pox. Before vaccines, most of those who were susceptible died before they reproduced and didn't pass their susceptibility on to their offsprng. If our civilization ever breaks down and we no longer have access to those vaccines, we will see a lot of children die of chicken pox, mumps, etc., until the natural order is restored.

We could be seeing the same effect with allergies now that we have treatments for some of them.

Could care less. It has truth. Most people today would die in a short time if they were removed from modern society and all that comes with it.

Jack Daniels is organic isn't it?

I do feel that all the preservatives in lunch meats etc are really not good for us. Real meat... no problem.

Dan... I said I was looking to.... I came on here to see if anyone had any thoughts or done any research work with it....and yes, you do mean to call me out ... history has a tendency to repeat itself ;)

What is the problem with labeling that a product contains HMO ingredients??? It is just a label ... why are they banned in most countries? Is it true that insects that eat items genetically modified with pesticides have their stomachs explode? If so, wouldn't you think that might affect a human that consumes the same food?

These are some of the claims, Dan .... you say they aren't proven...how much research have you done???

PT, are you paranoid? Seriously. I've heard you say the exact same thing to a number of other members. You act like people follow you around and are trying to "get you." Just because someone disagrees with you, doesn't meant they have some hidden agenda.

The problem is unnecessary regulation on an industry that will do nothing but drive up food prices. And, if you think its as simple as just putting a label on, you are mistaken. There is no proof that GMO plants cause any problems in people and this labeling is nothing more than a knee jerk reaction, kind of like what your lovely NY government has done with gun control.

Genetically modified with pesticides? There is no such thing. You're probably talking about BT corn. BT (Bacillus Thuringiensis) is a naturally occurring bacteria that's poisonous to some insects. BT corn has been genetically altered to express this toxin which causes, in short, the European Corn Borers stomach to explode. There are not many insects that are susceptible to BT and it has no effects on humans.

    Humans aren't insects.

A lot Tony. Since my family owns grocery stores, I have been curious to see what effects GMOs have on people. I also have my Pesticide Applicator Certification for WI, so I had to do plenty of studying on pesticides and BT corn.

Its great you want to watch what you eat, but I think you're misguided a little bit. Personally, I believe all the health problems people are experiencing are from chemicals directly in our food. Look at the labels on all the processed food out there. You can't pronounce half the ingredients anymore. That, right there, is where the focus should be.

I have no idea what you just said there. Are you saying you don't believe in Natural Selection? Honestly, I have no idea what you meant by that statement.

Dan ...seriously??? You can do better than using unnamed others to validate your statement .... what a joke ... I don't think anyone follows me around ... but you have proved in the past to "hunt" different members to disagree with them ... just take a poll ;)

Dan, like I said, I was just starting to study all this ... you do realize there are as many sources to say your full of crap as there are to say GMOs are safe ...right?

So if you REALLY wanted to help, don't you think you would have included your experience right away instead of making blanket statements and accusations???? But that wouldn't be as much fun ....would it?

I am not misguided ... yet. I still don't know what to believe on it all ...lots of info on here ... I just wanted to see if anyone on here researched this yet.... and Dan was the old Dan I remember from years ago ...

Reread what I said. I said it was an observation I made. Me. Personally. I don't bring up any conversations that go on behind the scenes, ever. I don't talk about PMs, ever. I don't play that game, its lame. So, if you or anyone else thinks I "hunt" them down to disagree with them, I apologize for your misunderstanding. It just simply isn't true.

So lets see them then. You started this thread to talk about it. I want to see some of these sources. Maybe you can get me to change my mind. Maybe. There's no need to get pissy, just because I disagree with you.

I honestly don't know where you're getting this from man. You're getting pissy because I have a problem with people (you in this case) that are uneducated about a subject, yet want to fight for new regulations. I have a problem with more regulations and government intervention on something that has no solid concrete proof. Just a "maybe" its bad. Sorry you take offense to that.

No idea what you mean by that either. I'm still the same Dan, just a little older, wiser and maybe.....maybe.....a little more ornery.

So, I would love to discuss this subject further. Honestly, I would. I'm really not out to get you, or anyone else.

The loss of honey bees is still the single most important factor in food production world wide, is it caused by any of these chemicals or other man made causes?
If the bees all die, it will make man made global warming scare seem nothing more than a little rain on St.Patty'ss day parade .
We have issues facing us that need answered, feeding an ever growing world population is going to take some changes in both what we plant and how we plant it.

So it seems that personal pissing matches garner more interest than a serious discussion on some of the problems we face as a country,we really are so divided on the direction we should be taking to protect the environment that is a necessity to our very survival.

    Thanks for the imput.

Apparently. I thought I was trying to discuss it.

I agree with the Bee problem. People don't understand what a catastrophe it would be if the bee populations continue to crash. The work bees do in pollinating is invaluable. I really don't know what the solution is there, as it seems to be very complex. I know as a pesticide applicator I have to be very careful what I spray my crops with and at what times of the day I spray. Carbaryl (Sevin) is extremely toxic to bees. Mainly because it can easily be transported back to the hives.

So you believe that GMOs fit into these changes?

I am not educated in chemistry, engineering and manufacturing with a minimum farming back ground is what I do. But over the years the chemicals used in the manufacturing process have changed dramatically simply because of the lack of a safe and affordable disposal process that eliminated the unintentional secondary contamination of both land and water. And the results have been dramatic.

I feel strongly we need to make these same changes and precautions in our farming processes. In our rush to succeed we some times fail to take the proper precautions resulting in some unintentional unrelated problems.

Insecticides, etc., are not the problem as far as the honeybees are concerned. They're being killed off by a virus that is carried by a mite that parasitizes the bees.

    :sheep:
It's a very bad situation since pollination of many crops requires bees.

On this subject you are terribly miss informed!
    Mites are controllable.
I cleaned out two hives Sunday that were completely abonded, not one dead bee.

Agreed. Pesticides are a problem when it comes to bees, as well as a number of other factors. Some of which we don't have any answers or solutions for.

How many hives do you have Jim?
