A few of you guys may remember a conversation we had about tonneau covers and truck caps awhile back. At the time I had pretty much made up my mind to get a cap and this weekend I finally pulled the trigger and ordered one. I originally started out looking at A.R.E., Leer, and Century. I found the Century caps were crap and narrowed it down to the other two. After looking at costs and options I elected to go with the Leer. I really wanted an A.R.E. with the tilt-up side windows but it was just too much $$. And Leer only offered that option on their "work" line of caps which are hideous.

I ended up going with the Leer 100XL. It's not their top of the line with his the 100 XQ, but it's the next step down. For the $350 difference I didn't feel the single side window and hidden hinges on the rear window was worth the price difference. The rear window is still frameless glass, but the hinges are on the outside. Honestly, it doesn't look THAT much different and give you an extra 3" of clearance when putting stuff in the bed. I added a carpeted headliner, fold-down front window, and extra dome light. Throw in a set of stainless nerf bars and I dropped right about 2K with tax. I couldn't walk straight for the rest of the day, but I'm sure I'll get over it.

Should be here in about two weeks. I'll post before and after pictures once it's on. I can't wait to be able to leave my hunting gear in the back without worrying too much about it being stolen or rained on.

I hate big time purchases like that. You hate forking over the cash, but then less than a year from now you'll love the cap so much the cost will be a distant memory!

If I didn't use the bed of my truck all of the time I would be interested in getting a hard tonneau cover again. I had one on my last truck which pretty much made it worthless for the farm. I got a Delta toolbox instead this time and everything else that rides in the bed gets the, errrrr......wind treatment.

LOL. In all seriousness, I really want a tounneau cover for my current rig. Ever since I quit the mulching aspect of landscaping (atleast from my truck bed anyway), I really have no utilization of my bed. It sits too high to use for loadin much anyway, as far as easily loading mulch/dirt/etc...I wish I had an ARE cover painted to match my truck to lock and keep all my gear dry...without having to constantly unload my truck to free up the backseat.

I also like the looks of those rolling/folding hard covers that can lock..such as the peragon aluminum folding cover. those are sweet as they are recessed and don't stick out...and lock just the same as a fiberglass shell does. I just need a place to store gear under without having to worry about it when I run in to get something to eat, or leave it parked in my driveway. One of these days, Ill have one of those on my truck.

    Congrats on the purchase JZ!

Very cool man! I've been thinking about getting one myself and will probably do so before I move back to Canada the end of April. I have wanted one for awhile, but it would have been a pain to take off everytime I wanted to hook up the rock star 5th wheel. If I can get rid of the 5th wheel, I'll definately be getting a cap.

Unfortunately, yes. The only use it got last year was in IL. Not to mention, at 37', its a pain in the ass to haul around!

If I still have it this fall, we'll probably be in it again. If not, we get to cuddle a little closer! :deer:

Oh wait.. I already met him.:busted:

Dude, yer gonna love that! I put a cap on mine about.......a month and a half ago I guess. Don't know how I ever got by without it. I wasn't going to do it because I just didn't want to spend $1200.......but....My dad said, and I quote....."Son.....shut the (F bomb) up and write the damn check!" So I did. And I'm glad. It's gonna be used for exactly what it was intended for here in a couple days....... Lockin our stuff up and keepin it dry for the trip. Now I don't have to worry about my hunting gear getting rained on, stolen, or blowin around in the bed.

I haul my 4 wheeler around too much in the bed so that will not work.

The back seat holds most of my stuff.

Very nice. I opted for a softopper, so it can be rolled down and back up whenever I need the bed, and I still get full cap functionality. I do like the looks of that one you have. Congrats!
