So we have hunted some new land a few times this year (brothers friend owns neighboring land and told us about it). We haven't seen squat........couple does and a few small bucks. He has kept in touch with us and reported the same from his camp......pretty slow going so far. He said his son killed a doe last week.

He stopped in to see my brother last night as they all left the woods.......they sat on the tailgate and chatted about hunting in general. Same comments......little to no action and hopefully next week it will pick up before gun starts.

He sends my brother a text message this morning and it has a picture of him over a buck and he says "Hang in there man, I told you they are out there"........my brother texts him back and says "when did you shoot him??......the pic is at night. He replies "Friday night".

    WTF???

Why would this guy talk to us as recently as last night and say he has seen very little and then send us a pic of a buck he says he shot 2 days ago??

I know some guys don't ever want to say what they saw but then why send the pic??......not only that we don't hunt the same land, we are on the neighbors.

We all think he shot it on our property (where he is not supposed to be).

    Thoughts?

Sounds a little fishy, is the guy a joke pulling kind of person? Could just be going for a good laugh/story.

Something is messed up........that's for sure. My brother got ahold of him again and he said he sounded all weird and said he was gonna surprise them with the deer in the morning. When my brother said "We told you we weren't going to be here in the morning" he didn't know what to say.

    Maybe gutpile searching time.

There's a glitch in his story somewhere. Keep inquiring and keep track of the answers. He'll trip up and confront. Looking for a gut pile could only mean that the deer died and was gutted on your property. It doesn't necessarily mean that it was shot there (depending on where it was hit).

Good Luck getting to the TRUE story.

Yeah...I would agree that something smells really bad about the whole thing. If he was hoping you guys would give up hunting the property so he could get in it doesn't make sense either so it should be interesting IF you can figure it out.

See, I don't know this dude.......my brother does, so I don't know if he is a nut job or an idiot poacher or just a jerk...............in fact he may be the greatest guy in the world.

I do know that his son was VERY upset at him for telling my brother about the land because he had always hunted it and was crying about having to move his stands.

Something is not right...........I don't think they poached it but I would say I'm about 95% sure it was killed on our land.
