Heard today from my kids babysitter that a coworker of theirs shot a giant buck 2 nights ago. It just so happens that it's less than a half mile from the property that I've been trying to shoot a giant buck. We are talking 190+ so I'm sure it's the same buck.

Now to my question. Apparently when he shot him, he dropped in his tracks. The guy started climbing down out of his stand and the buck got up and ran off quickly. They barely found any blood and looked that night and the next day. I'm thinking he shot above the spine and temporarily paralyzed him. Do you think he could still be alive if that's what happened?

Boy that's a tough one. Really no idea, the scenario you give is certainly plausible. It just depends on where he was hit.

I hit a monster once at a steep angle under my stand with an expandable head with kicker feet on the blades. It knocked that buck clear down and he rolled over and laid there for a second then ran off. The head kicked off from the angle when the blade deployed and that buck lived though I never saw him again (neighbor did) but point being impact alone or shock can certainly knock them down and they can survive a lot.

Hope it turns out for the best.

    sounds feasable.
i did the same thing to a big buck years ago. stone cold him. layed the gun down, went to get him, he regained his feet and took off like a rocket. watched him run full out for 1/2 mile.

Ya. Idc if he's dead but I wamt the guy to find him if he is. This deer is far too old to go out like that. Very bummed right now. But he may have pushed this deer to my property so I plan on hunting there Saturday and hopefully get to see him.

I did the same thing a number of years ago, the deer dropped like a rock and i started to climb down to finish my "spine" shot because I no longer had a shot at him where he lay. On my way down he got his front feet back, then his back and finally regained his composure enough to run away. I assumed I hit the vertebrae above the spine. I did see this buck two days later in a crp field chasing does, so he seemed ok, but each shot is different. I hope he's found....................by you, we need the points ;)

Dude, I know! I can't believe I have a buck this big running around and want to put my tag on him badly. He is a STUD! Maybe he hits the 200" mark and we become the 1st team with 2 in a season! We can dream right?

That sounds like a realistic option to me. I hope that you get a chance to finish what the other guy started.

That is one thing that I lack on is having cameras. I only have 1 and it's busy on another property.

You won't know unless you see him or get pics.

I found a buck that had been shot with a shotgun slug and dropped on the spot but got up and ran off. The buck did die from his wound.... five weeks later. :(

I know. I'll probably pull my camera tomorrow or Friday and put it out Saturday morning. I'll be in a stand on that property all weekend wind permitting.
