I am in central Illinois. I plan to put in sugar beets the first week of May for deer and was wondering if I could also plant sunflowers for doves that same day in a different location. Also, if your in Illinois do you know if it is legal to mow the sunflowers over?

You can plant sunflowers anytime the threat of frost has past, so first week of May should be just fine. I can't speak to the legality of mowing them down and hunting over them. In Missouri, it is technically illegal to do that, but I don't know the law in Illinois.
