I was looking at the NAP Thunderheads as I prefer fixed blade broadheads, seeing as I've never used anything but. I'm just wondering what people think of this particular NAP model.
I can tell you they have been around a long time. I used them once 16 years ago. I shot one deer with em. I use nothing but slick tricks now for the last 7 years.
I've killed deer with them and like them but out of a pack of six you might get two that fly perfect. Then you have to tune your bow to them and only shoot them at practice. I will have my one that flies perfect and use it for yotes and such, but using killzones for deer.
IMO the Thunderhead is one of the finest fixed blade broadheads ever built. If it wasn't for our need to have something new and cool every year more people would still be shooting them. The nice thing about the original Thunderheads is that they're relatively inexpensive and solid in a 6 pack so you get a lot more for your money. However if you don't want to mess around with loading in the blades and o-rings I would look at the new Thunderhead Razor. It's a slightly more compact version of the original that tends to fly a little better out of high speed bows, uses screws to hold the blades in, and provides the same if not better penetration. Okay after reading all these I think I'll either go with what Justin said or make the switch to mechanical and try out the Killzone. Thanks for the info!
IMO they are the best fixed blade head out there. Thats all I use on my older bow that I still shoot aluminum arrows through. They really put smack on a shoulder blade. Tuning them is the only pain but I feel well worth it if you prefer a fixed blade.
I don't have any experience with those, but I too made the switch to fixed blade last year after using a mechanical broadhead that froze shut and didn't expand for me. Less things to go wrong IMO
I'm a fixed blade guy too, have been since I had a mechanical with kicker feet kick off a 180" buck's back at an angled shot a decade ago. I like the Hellrazors, I think NAP has cornered the market on heads...they seem to have the best of both mechanicals and fixed. BUT I bought a pack of KillZones last evening and they look nearly flawless for a two blade head. I love x3 that there are no plastic POS parts or bands on them. I'm going to shoot them alonside of a pack of Rage Hypodermics today and see both do next to the Hellrazors.
It is a smaller version made for speed bows. The blades have a set screw so there is no way they can fall out. Also the razors have a helical to them that allows them to rotate better.
