I am beyond stoked fellas, just got my first pistol today (excluding rimfires). Dad was wanting a new pistol, as was I, so we decided to go in halves on one and it be a graduation present for me.

Made the drive up to Whittakers to take a peep around, and instantly gravitated to the S&Ws. I liked the thumb safety option, but they only had that on a brown polymer grip, so I opted for the black without it.

SO, I got a Smith and Wesson M&P 45. 10+1 capacity, simple to break down, 4.5" barrel, reasonably priced compared to other brands.

    Here is my baby.

    Anyone else shot one before?

Yeah, I've put quite a few rounds through one of 'em... very nice pistol; you'll be well-pleased with her!

I love mine... I have the dark earth frame in .45 with the thumb safety. Just FYI, mine shoots much better with the +P ammunition. Obviously it's more expensive but that's what I keep in the hole for perpetrators. Good luck, you'll like it.

Cool. I darn near walked out with the earth frame for the thumb safety, but I just liked the black frame too much to care about the thumb safeties. They had ZERO boxes of ANY .45 ammo, so I'll have to look elsewhere. At first, I just want to get it well lubed and oiled and put a box or three through it to get used to it.

Thanks again guys, I think I made the right choice.

I think you're right. Also, FYI the M&P .45 will fit all the Glock 21 holsters, it was designed to match all the contact points so that they could be interchangeable for military ops. It may work for the Glock 20 as well, I can't remember for sure.

Let me know what you think of it. I'm looking to buy my first pistol sometime this year.
