I am wanting to go to either G5 T3 expandables or grim reapers expandables and can not make up my mind. Does anyone have any opinions or experiences?

you wont go wrong with G5. i'm not all for expandables from past experiences with Rage broadheads, but i use the G5 Montecs (high carbon) and it is a well made broadhead. I wouldn't trust any other brand to lay down a trophy.

I prefer fixed blade broadheads. However, I do shoot Grim Reapers and have confidence in them. They are the only mechanical I will shoot. I have tried several others but when I buy new I buy GR's. They work every time.

I might sound really stupid with this statement............but the reason I am looking at expandables is due to the larger wound channels they are advertizing. I have never got to kill a deer with my bow so I am only going by advertizing. is a fixed blade better? even with a smaller wound channel?

Get them close make a good shot and they all work. I've taken deer with a lot of different heads fixed and expandables and I have confidence in either. In my experience the deer I've taken with expandables left better blood trails and didn't go as far as those shot with fixed blades so I like expandables but it really comes down to personal preference. So choose one, go kill a deer and decide.

I have both I'm playing with now. I'm more or less in the same boat as you.
I have a set of montecs and a set of meat seekers.
I have found the meat seekers shoot identical to my field points at 30 yards.
My bow is tuned for field points, so my next step is to see which ones shoot better.

But as stated, if you make a good shot, either one will get the job done.

fixed blades are much better because they dont pre-open in flight and nothing can go wrong with them. Butif it came down to expandables the G5 T3 worked great for me on a nice sow hog, you should also look at what Rage has to offer.

Check out the RamCat broadhead. Fixed blade but flies like a mechanical and has blades sharpned on both edges if you don't get a pass thru.

I tried the T3 broadhead last season and you'll never find them in my quiver again. I don't like the spider clip design at all, if you hit a blade on almost anything the clip would compress and the blade would open. I'd find myself in the field bending the clips open with a knife then wondering if a shot presented itself if I had enough tension on the blade to keep it from opening in flight. There are more important things to be on your mind at the moment of truth than if your head is going to open in flight. There are much better designs in mechanical heads out there.

Funny this I exactly why I went from Rage to G5 T3's. The rages opened constantly. I killed a buck last year with the T3's and have no complaints at all. Awesome wound channel. No issues with the spider clips either.

    Tekans are the Way
Two years ago I took 3 does in 2 days with the same Tekan. I didn't even resharpen after the 1st day either.Total brain fart on my part by the way, I've never done that before. Just happened to forget. Complete pass throughs too. Never heard any stories about them failing to open either, great flight, same as my broadheads out to 60 yards. Can't do that with my Montec's. Love the Montec's though, very durable broadhead and sharp as can bee. I choose them over the Tekans when I'm hunting in close quarters .

I work at Cabelas in the archery dept. I've heard good things about both of these expandables, just different cutting diameters.
