Anyone get the title? Little SNL, little hunting humor. Cue the crickets and onto the hunting.

So little back story, my 2013 hunting season was cut short due to a shoulder injury and my second surgery ON THE DAY BEFORE WI RIFLE SEASON. Just cruel and unusual punishment with that timing. Needless to say I was pretty amped about being able to go out this year. Bowhunting was pretty slow for me with finishing up the Law Enforcement academy and military and trying to work while raising two boys but that's life. Only saw one nice buck during the rut but I love the opportunity to just be on stand...although a nice buck always helps.

My father-in-law owns just shy of 100 acres in Buffalo County mostly river bottom and swamp area. We usually see numerous amounts of deer but this year was different. We saw 0 Saturday morning. Shots rang out all around us but nothing but a coyote, who also managed to get away without a shot, was present that day. Sunday showed promise as a large deer moved through the area before first light but it stalled after a buck fawn came through to end our morning. I decided to pull out of Buffalo County and head back to Pepin county where I saw 9 deer including one nice buck just on the neighbors land at last light in the fog and rain. I told my father-in-law and friend and both of them said they would have shot that deer. Not to toot my horn or anything but I pride myself on being held to a higher standard not only as a soldier and police officer but as a human being in general. Moral of the story is no matter who you are around even family can tempt you to do wrong, stay on the high road to promote our sport and fairness to all of our hunting members.

To add onto this, I was hunting in a hay field last night. Anyone ever made their own hay bale blind? Can you give me a time frame, cost, etc.?

Good luck to others and stay safe.
