So of all winds to have on a beautiful September 27th opening morning we get a...... NE wind. If there is a wind I never want to see when hunting my properties around home on a morning hunt it is a NE.... Down south, that's anohter story.... It isn't that I do not have any stand locations ready to hunt on a NE morning wind, it is that all of my properties layouts do not work with that wind for a morning hunt. Heck, I could live with any wind in the mornings except for anything with an East kicker to it (until the rut that is, it opens a couple locations up).... I do have some out of the way locations I can hunt tomorrow morning that could work out with that wind, especially if we get the rain that is forecast by keeping others inside. They are also very low impact locations that I shouldn't have to worry about bumping any deer. Just made up my mind... I know where I will be and there should be some acorns on the ground there... But the deer will have a lot of options for where to eat the acorns in this set of woods Hoping for the best! BTW the N-NE wind forecast in the evening gives me many options
It might change by the time morning gets here. Remember we are talking about the weather people here. The ones who get the forcast right maybe 1 out of 3 tries. And make waaaaaay tooooo much money for being wrong that many times. Good luck with finding a buck in the oaks tomorrow morning.
I will be set up within 50ish yards of where I found the double beam shed last winter.... The shed has no bearing on why I will hunt this location tomorrow though if the wind stays the course....
Screw The Wind Brother!! You are in the fricken zone, just get out there and send me a pic when you get it done!
That north wind is forcing me to sleep in tomorrow . . . so I can hunt my patch correctly in the evening :d . I had my monster 14 pointer along with two 8's and a forker within 40 yards tonight. There's no way I'm risking that situation. That north wind is perfect for my evening set up btw Scott, my local forecaster says winds north/north-east at 5-10 through Monday. . . hope it works out for you
My choices weren't great either. The stand I needed a north wind to hunt was the choice. We had a slight N wind saturday AM,(for a little while), I got to the stand along a trail in a funnel and got comfortable. About 45 minutes after sunrise the wind shifted and started from the south. I had to get out of there. On my way out I noticed the lack of tracks in the area. There had been a ton of traffic along that trail in the spring. I guess the pattern has changed. I went to another stand and didn't see a thing until I jumped 2 does on my way out.
Uh......and how did we do? Other than donating about 2 pints of blood to the local skeeter population...
