I didn't see anything at all today, sat over a wheat field all day and all I saw was a dozen squirrels and a groundhog

A weat field? Not really where I would set up unless you have seen deer in this field regularly...Besides, why is there a weat field at this time of year? I have never seen a weat field this time of year here in Va.. Is this something you see in PA a lot? I would look for acorns. That's what they want. sorry you didn't see anything, but it's just the start.

wheat shoulda been harvested sometime in july. whinter wheat just got planted, spring wheat shoulda been harvested in august.
and all the hay and straw is cut too!
look for acorns, which there are so many of right now. the easiest way would be ti look for the acorns close to bedding and water. deer are like us, if there is a fast food option, they will take it!

I bet you'll know where to go for squirrels and groundhogs.

I wouldn't worry about it.... the full moon really screwed things up. Anywhere with any Ag fields will be affected by full moon's as the deer can spend more time throughout the night feeding and will spend less time on their feet during daylight.

I like to avoid field edges at this time of year, I would get back in the woods and set up on thier route.."bedding to food"..for example and set up where you can catch them on the trail, instead of hoping for them to walk by your stand on a fields edge.
