I couldn't get a turkey to come into my archery setup this am. I sat in my blind till 9:00 with the decoys out front without getting any action. It had been a while since I had heard any gobbling. So I decided to go back to the trailer and get the shotgun and hit the woods. I made a big circle calling every once in a while. I finally got a response. I setup on a hillside and got ready. Every time I yelped I got a thundering return, It sounded like 2 gobblers and a jake. Before long I could see them coming. Running in and out of strut. They actually passed me up and I had to reposition and call them back. When I saw the first head bobbing over the ridge top I let him have it. 22.7 lbs. 9-1/8" beard 7/8" spurs Noone to help with the pics, so I had to make due with the self timer.
Congrats! I can't wait til I get to go out a few times. I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it home this weekend to go out but if I don't I'll definitely be hitting the woods Tuesday morning. Any chance you got lucky and found any mushrooms or were you looking for them at all?
I checked a few places as I was hunting, but didn't see any shrooms. Thanks guys, hopefully this is the start to a good year of hunting on my place.
Congrats, John! Heck of a bird, and it looks like the weather was nice as well (great photos). Your clover looks to be doing outstanding! My frost seeded clover is just starting to sprout a bit.
