As everyone, ( not in AK, lol!) gets closer to opening day do you have all of your gear decisions made? Some of mine are dependent on weather conditions but I have a couple of plans. Perfect scenario is cool temps and a southerly wind. If that happens for me, I'll be hunting a stand with my longbow, I'll be wearing Enigma camo, and it will be an all day sit due to the full moon. Any other weather conditions and any of the above is subject to change. warmer temps may mean a mesh bug suit with T-shirt and shorts underneath, rain, well, of course that means rain gear. Winds out of the north I'll be in a stand that may require a longer shot so I'll be packing the Marquis. The plan is for an all day sit regardless of conditions. How about you? Are you gear and stands decided on for the opener?
i hoping for some crummy weather, just to get my mind right for the season.... dont wanna be spoiled the first sit of the yr! i dont do well in the heat so i'll prob have on something light. only gonna hunt if i get an east wind, if not might just wait it out or high tail it north and try my luck
I'm pretty set on what gear I'll be in and using but not sure on where. I have two spots I am wanting to focus on in GA and not 100% sure on which one yet for opening day. I'll be in my ScentBlocker XLT suit with LaCrosse Alpha Lite boots, but could either be sitting in my Summit Viper on public land or my Gorilla lock-on on private land. The bow and arrows are all ready to go and plan to get everything packed up in my pack and clothes washed and sealed back up this weekend. Just waiting on Sept 12 now.
Opening day - gear is all set waiting on a leafy top and will have everything washed and ready to go by this weekend Where - going the direction I'm pointed and for some reason looking forward to this one moreso than years past - Jeff, The pics of that buck shows a lot of character as well - would be a pretty mount - sure temptation will set in if you get him in front of you -
Everything does ultimately depend on the wind but I do have a spot I'd like to be in on opening morning and another for the PM
MY decision on where to hunt will be based on 2 things, weather and my trail camera. As soon as I pick up my trail camera from my Oklahoma spot I'll decide whether to hunt there or here. Then, depending on wind direction, which stand I'll hunt
I'm a mess. I've got so much to do and I can't find time to do it. I have to set up stand sites at 2 locations, get stands down to MD and set up, wash my clothes, get my hunting arrows ready, find all my gear, pack all my gear, pull my last 2 trail cameras, get a permission letter signed, continue shooting, get my video gear ready, and buy any last minute items that I find that I need. Having a new baby in the months right before hunting season is challenging (but I wouldn't trade her for the world).:D
This is in regards to my elk trip. Gear is set, clothing is mostly set, some clothing items will be +/- dependant on the forecast.
All my gear is ready. Bow is shooting great. I will be wearing my lightweight Scentblocker clothes and LaCrosse boots. As far as where I am gonna sit, it all depends on the wind. I am hoping for either a South or West wind. If not, I will go to other side of the farm. I just need to wash my clothes and buy my tags.
