Yep.. I remember the same. It used to be an "event". Opening day of baseball meant something. Now you can't even watch the first game of the season? Hell I don't even know who won yet. Just strange to me.
Bullhockey... I lived in Americus for 8 years. In fact, my wife is buried there as I will be. All you do is catch bream at that time of year and chase turkeys. AND... Georgia is still a football state. LOL
Baseball will always be #1 for me. I watch more baseball in a week than I will watch football in two years. In fact, I only watch 3 channels on TV. Sportsmans, Pursuit, and MLBnetwork. It is a shame that there are less people into such a great beautful sport, but it seems that there are less people INTO sports period now than there used to be. The Bachelor, American Idol and Jersey Shore seem to be more important
I also watch more baseball and love Mlb network. My son is on the freshman team as an 8 th grader and playing shortstop. So you can see as a family we love the sport. Matter if fact he chose to go watch the varsity and jv play tonight instead if staying home and watch ky play for a national championship. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
Baseball is my favorite sport. Around here all the emphasis is placed on both football and baseball with very little attention to basketball. I know in a lot of areas soccer is huge, but in other parts playing it is almost unheard of. I follow baseball pretty regularly. I'm a Braves fan. In the summertime we always go to at least one or two braves games. I love baseball so much I'll watch games even if I don't know the teams. For example, I'll sit through the little league world series when it comes on or college baseball when I've never heard of the team. Why is baseball not so popular around areas? It's easy to find a basketball goal and a court to play on. It's even easy to play backyard football. Not many places have battings cages or regularly open baseball fields. It takes 18 people to have a baseball game while two or three can play basketball, and a small group can play football as well. It's not that younger generations don't enjoy Americas pastime, but it's very difficult to throw a game together considering the amount of players and equipment it takes.
And not for anything, but it must be a nice luxury for your ace to pitch game one of your season, get 5 days rest and be ready for game 2. Some (a lot) of these division races come right down to the last week/day of the season. The more I think about it, the more I can't stand it. What are the teams that already played an official game doing now? Do they go back to spring training games until the season starts in the US? Weird..
Hell, when is opening day this year???? Was it last week in Japan? Last night when my Cardinals whipped Miama (by the way, the gayest uniforms ever)? Is it today with two games playing? Is it Friday with 10 or so games going, or is it Saturday when everyone plays? I'm confused. Thank you Bud Selig.
Living close by to Cooperstown, I see 1000's of kids from all over the country coming to the baseball camps. They start as soon a school closes down south and it goes right though September. The demand is I so great that another company recently opened a second fantasy camp near by the original, and between the two places there is still demand. Nice rental houses are getting similar weekly prices as beach front summer rental homes. Families/ drive and fly in nation wide in order for their children to play in the weekly leagues.
I like Miami's logo and colors. Reminds me of when baseball uniforms had flair. The 70s and 80s had some stellar uniforms.
Immediately before I saw the picture I was thinking the Astros from the 80's after reading your post. I look back at some of my baseball card collection and there was some serious style back then.
