Okay... took a older class buck last night.. but he's not exactly what I wanted. I passed a few "bigger" inches wise bucks like the one pic below because I wanted them to go another year and hope they would show again.. So... this big bodied.. deeper chester buck came in last night and I mistook him for a different buck who also had a wide spread and I encountered from the same tree just 3 weeks prior.. he wasn't to my surprise. A tree (which you'll see in the video) and my trying to self-film the whole ordeal took my eyes off the deer after I noticed the wide spread and assumed he was that same buck (who was a 140 +). He wasn't. So... the video is awesome... but I'm not thrilled honestly... I made a mistake.. will own up to it... and move on. I held out for a mature animal.. got it.. (has no teeth left).. but somehow got on another one without much rack. I don't know why I'm so cursed in the antler department. Oh well... I'm done.. although I have 2 more buck tags left... I haven't been out as much this year and am having trouble leaving the homestead with the new daughter. I'm a wussy this year I know. Here he is in trailcam form... all 20" wide... like 25" beams... 5" bases... and thats it. Ooops. Stupid body.
Well, your a wussy every year but thats beside the point. LOL! After the screw up I made this year your's looks minor to me. Thats a nice big bodied deer, and like you said you have two more tags. Get back after that one you were chasing! And congrats on the one you killed.
Congrats Mike. 25" beams are nothing to scoff at. Hope things get better at home, nothing serious I trust?
No... not at all.. I just feel guilty about leaving her. Like I said... I'm just a puss this year. Stupid kid.
FWIW, I know how hard it is to leave the house with a new daughter at home. Lily was born 12/17/04. There were two weeks left to the season here but I was done with 4 tags left. Your priorities are dead on!
I woulda rather had the 140 truthfully. It's vain I know.. but I'll call it what it is. Self-filming is tough.. it just keeps your eyes off the deer and on the camera too much. I've had this problem the whole year. The video is pretty sweet though.
I was wondering where you been hiding!! First off congrats on your Buck Mike, I did boo boo this year to :D Now LOL, I remember when my Kids were younger, its hard to leave em. But im tellin you man. wait till the teenage years, you will be running out the Door :D
Way to go mike, I can't wait to see the video self filming is super tough I've learned this season. You sure killed a mature animal. Congrats dude...
I know it's not the buck you thought, but still, congratuations Mike. I can't wait to watch the video. ... oh, and just so you know, wanting to stay home with your daughter makes you a great father, not a puss.
I can't believe you shot that dink. What a loser! I would give up bowhunting if I were you. Just sayin...
Thats a great pic, Mike. Nothing wrong with picking your kid over deer. But you need to get over that by spring if you want to catch a few steelhead.
Congrats Mike, bruiser of a body on that guy! Our kids aren't to far apart in their age, I know where you are coming from. I probably have less hours in stand the past two Octobers combined than I would have had in the first 3 weeks of a season prior to having my boy. How about a pic of you and your buck!?
Posse is all out of town hunting... so I'll wait til after the kids nap this am and have the wife take a few before I'm off to the butchers. She'll love that. Ya.. its definitly alot harder than I thought it would be Scott... especially since my lands are just over 2 hours away. I think I only hunted 5 or 6 times all of October. Next year I gotta try and gather more land closer to home. A task not easy to accomplish.
