That's a huge misconception. A lot of people believe that the rut kicks in earlier the further north you go. In fact, it's quite the opposite. I have hunted NW Ontario for 13 years, as well as Saskatchewan and Alberta numerous times. The rut is always 1-2 weeks later that far north. What a lot of people fail to remember is that a whitetail's gestation length is the same no matter where they are. If they breed too early that far north, they run the risk of dropping fawns in colder weather.
I just began to see major sign of rubs/ scrapes and the big boys moving... and thats in Eastern Ontario, (Just west of Ottawa)
Slowest rut I have ever seen in my area. Gun season just ended and we are only now seeing the big boys move.
Not slow now since we got all that snow and cold on the weekend. All the deer are heading to the yard in Iron Bridge. In 3 2 hour sits since sunday I have seen a ton of deer on the move and killed a nice doe this morning. Go sit on a deer trail and you will be good.
Big Bodied 8 Point...just finished sitting down in the stand when he walked in last evening. Smashed him thru both lungs, and he ran only 50 yds... he must've weighed 180-200 lbs..It was a long drag out..lol
Was up near bearhead north of blind river since sunday and a ton of deer went through since saturdays snow and cold. So there should be a lot of deer coming by the west ebd of chiblow now. I hunted a lot on eley road but we only killed 1 doe there early in the season.
Hey everyone, First post on this site. I live near Barrie and haven't seen any rut activity. Anyone else see or in this this case, not see the same thing? Its been a super tough year for me. Shotgun hunt this week but not optimistic in even seeing a deer.
