I've never been to a Dave and Busters, but I'm still suspicious if your statement is true. People pay for worms?
Here's a map of Chicago homicides in August: http://www.redeyechicago.com/news/l...-put-people-on-alert-20120613,0,4147724.story You're not likely to be killed if you stay in the areas that the Mayor actually cares about (i.e. the money making districts). But do be aware of the violent 'flash mobs'. These are usually youth who wander outside the borders of the Democratic Plantation and briefly terrorize the Gold Coast and other uppity areas. http://www.redeyechicago.com/news/l...-put-people-on-alert-20120613,0,4147724.story As far as big cities go... Chicago is a fairly nice city to visit. (just try to ignore the politics, crime and outrageous taxes... ha!)
Chicago was friendly for us. Felt safe at night. Felt much safer than we do in St Louis at night. Pretty friendly people too. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
I made it back home, great trip, drank a couple beers at "the billy goat" bar, even had the famous double "chezzborger" from SNL fame. Lots of homeless people, never saw them before in all the years I've been going there, must be the " change" we voted for.And theres no support for the teachers strike, in a very pro union state, i found that interesting. Great to be home.
You went to a big scary city and didn't get murdered? What??? Is that even possible? Part of me thinks you never went to Chicago.
I have pics, . And I had a great steak at "Rock Bottoms" off east Ohio, there is a high quality show an the museum next to soldier field, including "Sue" a 70 % complete skeletal remains of a tyrannosaurus Rex, and a 4 pound solid gold sculpture of a Mayan goddess thats pretty sweet. I think I will spend some time in my woods this afternoon.
This is a big change. I don't think the unions are nearly as popular among the people as they are with our elected officials, but they create their own set of challenges in and of themselves. I do real estate deals for a very large company downstate - won't say how big, but suffice it to say we own over 20 million square feet of commercial real estate across the country. We are getting ready to close the deal on over 5 million additional sf, and we will be selling approximately that much of our current space to keep about equal. We will be selling facilities in pro union states, and all of the new facilities are in right-to-work states. We are NOT currently unionized. I think the company is trying to avoid the crap that may happen after the election, if it goes the wrong (left) way.
Can anyone imagine living in a country that wants to close the schools and fire the teachers that don't teach their student? What a novel idea. The teachers unions answer to this problem, pay us 16% more ,give us better health benefits and make us work fewer days to not teach or students and we will sign that contract. Geniuses I say!
I too had to visit Chicago this week and I worked at midnight just south of Downtown. I don't necessary worry about getting murdered as much as I worry about being raped by one of those Man purse skinny jeans wearing funny fellows, and not funny ha ha but funny he he. But then again Indiana Jones wore a satchel, so who knows who’s looking for treasure? I often wonder what sort of looks one would have wearing our full camo scent suits why walking along the streets of Chicago? If my wife wouldn’t kill me I’d possibly conduct such a research.
While I'll say I respect teachers these Chicago teachers making on average 71k with 4 months off yearly is a bit stupid. I really don't think its the teachers as much as it's the union rep's that get paid even more when the salary increases per member. Well I'm guess there, but it wouldn't surprise me if they did. Chicago schools are listed among the worst in the country and they want a raise because of it?? This will be a funny turn out as the union give millions of dollars to the Dem party and the city is ran by Dem's so they will either have to side with the unions and piss off the towns people or deny the Unions demands and risk losing all of that cash. I have a feeling this state may shift sides in the coming years if the state keeps making all of these negative changes that cost us (tax payers) more money. Other than those complaints I actually enjoy Chicago. Lots to do and it is 99% safer then St Louis. There’s been two murders downtown STL in the past two weeks. One was over someone refusing to give up a bag of cheetos. "I have the munchies really bad". This city (STL) is an s*** hole that should just be washed under by a massive flood. I'm done ranting now.
News today from the negotiations: the school caved in to union demands about teacher evaluations: Even if a teacher is evaluated as worthless, they still get to keep their job indefinitely as long as their evaluations don't go down "significantly" from their previously low standard. http://www.suntimes.com/15101839-76...ith-chicago-teachers-union-yet-wednesday.html
When a teacher is allowed to run their class room like a business I am all for evaluations. This means they can fire under performing students, How many want to be evaluated when you have no control of the outcome? I can control my output for projects. Teachers have no control once that student leaves.
There certainly appears to be abundant areas with little to no testosterone present, soy milk and skinny jeans are products not often the topic of conversations at our local diners, yet I can see how the colorful neck scarfs could fend off that nasty evening breeze. A variety of people make up the Chicago skyline thats for sure, not being one of them disturbs me less than the dew of my boots after a morning wood in the woods.
This obviously disturbs me more than you then.... lol No child left behind was the worst thing to happen to our educational system. I was pro-public school until that time. I'll send my children to private if that law still exists. I don't want the bad ones dragging mine down.
Imagine a world where people of differing political color, sit as one. It sounds glorious. Nah, segregating is much more fun!
