Well, i've been doing alot of thinking and I believe it's time to go to school. I'm 21 now and have really no idea where I want to go, not that I should necessarily. I started college once when I was 19, for Diesel Tech, and decided that it was just not what I wanted to do.

I would like to go back to school for a business degree, possibly Assoc. in Business Managament. I have quite a few interests that I would not mind pursuring a carrer in and believe business is my best bet to cover them all.

So, for those of you who have done online schooling, or may know some about it, I have some questions.

    Financial Aid:
Are there any forms of financial aid for online schooling? If so, is it best to request it at the first of the year like FAFSA?

    Schools:
There are so many schools out there that it's almsot over whelming. I have heard the University of Phoenix brought up quite a bit. If anyone has a degree in business, what would you recomend?

I know these questions are very broad, and there really isn't a right and wrong answer. I have been everything I can find, and honestly, there is too much information. I feel as if i'm just digging my selfing into a deeper state of confusing. Thanks for any help guys!

    My advice

Don't do the online college thing. They aren't well respected.

The funny thing that even with on-site colleges, much of the work is done via online classes. I have a Masters in Business Admin, and probably 25% of the entire work I did, was in an online class setting, even though it was an on-site college. I finished college up about 4 years ago, and can only assume more and more colleges are going this route.

It's not the degree itself that will get you a job...it's Contacts and Diligence.
Do you mean you might do something self-employeed? If so, I would just go for it - no online degree is going to help.
If you have a couple particular employers in mind...call them, speak to HR, let them know you would like to job shadow or volunteer one week soon to see if it is a possible career choice for you. If so, speak to the higher-ups there, ask them the best course to potentially be employed there one day...then go that route. Keep asking until you get where you want!

I went to school with TOO many that thought the degree itself was all they needed, they now work totally outside their degree area and have huge loans...much more emphasis should be put on "Making it Happen"...

What do you plan to do with your degree? If it is start your own business go for the on-line thing. If you are going to work for someone go the on site even if the the class's are on line it still looks better on paper to have that degree. It just shows future employer's that you are willing to go the distance. Just my .02

Thanks for the input guys. Like I said i'm not sure exactly where I would like to take it yet. I have doing retail for the past few years, and really enjoy that! I wouldn't mind someday opening my own hunting/archery shop. In fact, I just finished a job at an archery shop, loved it. I am now working at The Home Depot, they offer certifications through the company. I will be doing as many of those as time allows.

My original plan was to go to taxidermy school After doing my research, however, I decided this was a better side business choice vs. full time career.

Most of my emphasis is on "making it happen". I am an extrmely hard worker and bust my ass no matter what the job is. I know that hard work will pay off in the end and always get noticed. I guess my biggest fear anymore is that alot of people are going to college and getting a degree. How far will hard work carry you when they have an impressive background?

I have built up a fairly healthy and reputable list of recomendations which I have been using as my "degree" in a sense. maybe I will just keep on busting my ass and hope persistance and perseverance pay off.

IMO, degrees are really only useful for specialized fields, such as engineering, science, etc.

For more general fields, such as business, accounting, finance, obviously a degree will help you in the front door alot easier, but experience in these fields can sometimes over take someone without a degree.

I recommend college (real college) to every young adult that is not sure what to do with their life.
