    Hi all from Wales, UK,

I did a bit of archery as a child with a recurve so I have the basic basics but over the last few years I picked up a couple of bows in anticipation of starting again. The first is a basic Barnett compound style bow and the second I got sent from US ebay, an Oneida Eagle; it's clearly an old model with the wrong string.

I can't find anywhere to get a string in the UK and I can't even work out which string I need. Can anyone tell me, is it one size fits all with these bows or do I need to get the right one, if so, how do I work out which one to get?

The other thing is that I believe you need quite a heavy arrow for the OE bow, can anyone guide me what I should look for?

    thanks.

Is there a label with the specs on the bow on the limbs? It should say something like short, super short, medium or long.

These sites should have all you need. Both full of good info. I think oneidabows.net has a list of all string lengths by model. I have a list for all prior to 2001.

    Oneida factory site: http://cponeidaeagle.com/

Guys that know their Oneida bows: http://www.oneidabows.net/ They have a forum to ask questions there.

    You need to know:
    Model
Draw length - short, med, long

I have/had several Oneidas. If it has no model name post a picture, someone will know.

Arrow - Use the arrow makers chart for a hard cam. Min arrow weigh is 5 grain per pound but I like 8 or so for hunting. The heavier arrow the quieter the bow will be.

IMO, no bow company makes a draw a smooth as an Oneida. They are loud but there are ways to quiet it down if you want (for hunting). Also you can work (such as change string) on them without a bow press.
