I had a phone that took a swim about 5 years ago that still works to this day. The rice worked for me then, hope it works for you now. Fingers crossed for ya man.
Sorry to hear that Fitz. Rice saved my dad's IPhone after running through a washing machine so hopefully it will do the trick on your camera.
Would you be interested in "downgrading" to a 60D? I might be selling mine. Hope yours pulls through though.
Tonight will be the moment of truth. Canon said 3 days in the rice. ... I'm nervous, but have had it in my head that it's toast since I heard the splash, so I guess there's nothing to lose.
Yep, if it works it will only be a bonus because it's a 99% chance it's fried. Hopefully you will be one of the luck 1%. On a similar not, but not nearly as devastating. We had some major flash flooding over the weekend and I had a Covert Outlook in a spot that was in fairly low area near the creek. Yesterday afternoon I waded into the flood waters to check to see if it was damage and I was lucky because the water had came up within just about an inch or two of the camera. I decided to swap out the chip, and as I did it hung up on the camera when I was pulling it out. I lost my grip and it dropped into the flood waters. Lost forever. Like I said, not nearly as devastating.
Thanks for the heads up. The one thing this reassured me is that I'm very happy with the 70D. I've been looking again, and for self filming with a DSLR, there's no better route. I'll get another if it's toast. Even though you can get a 7D cheaper now that the 7D MKII is out. The dual pix auto focus is awesome, and combining that with the tilt & swivel touch screen, I don't think I'll change models. Eventually I'd like to get a 5D, but I'd still do most of my hunt filming with the 70D. That's way down the line though. I need a drone, slider, couple GoPros, 50mm, 50mm-500mm Sigma, wireless mics, etc, etc..........
Unpacked it all and I could still see a few drops in a few different spots, so I'm going to repack it, add more rice and check it in a few more days. The battery that was in it won't take a charge, so I think it's shot. smudges on the inside of the lens (18-135 STM), so I think even if it works the lens is shot. Guess I'll hurry up and wait....
Did/can you remove the lens and open any covers to the body (like card slot covers, battery covers, etc).. Might help that extra bit... Lens once they have moisture in them are probably goners.
Yes, day two when I swapped out the rice I separated the camera & lens, placed both in cloth bags and opened all the ports and caps on the camera. The cloth bags let the moisture pass through but protects the camera from rice debris. (another tip from the Canon guy)
Seems to have dried out now. I put in a fresh battery and the thing actually turned on. The touch screen and nav buttons worked, but then I got a "err 80". Pulled everything and tried again a bit later and it turned on again. Ran the shutter a few times even. Then got an "err 20". So... It's promising, but I'll have to send it in to Canon for sure and see what their service Dept. thinks. Not sure if they can disassemble the lens to clean all the glass that's smudged or not. I'll ask when I call on Tuesday. Who knows, if it's somewhat working, they might give me something in trade. The story continues........
