One and Done fine with me. If this was a Presidential media poll this would serve as a majority.

I'll mess around in Photoshop and see what I can come up with. I'll PM fitz and see if he can change our thread name for us.

Kyle, have you checked out the area at the top right of the circle where the blue line intersects with the circle? It looks like there is a ridge or trail in the middle of that finger. Is there a trail cutting out that finger kinda like a short cut?

Here's hoping that you find a "bigun" as we say in the hills.

Got out this evening an broadcast my seed at the food plot it is a wildlife mix with all sorts of goodies in it finally picked it up at the local seed shop. I figured I would plant between rains to see how it does in the next month as it is in some pretty rich soil so im hopeful. It will come up thrive well giving the deer plenty to browse on for the fall. My phone was dead or I wuda snap a few pics but my phone was dead so ill be putting a camera over it soon I also have a mineral sight near also im sure its a hunny hole already because the deer tracks are heavy in there. Here is a few pics from the food plot and where ill be sitting at. This is an in town spot but there has been plenty deer using this area for many years now. These pics are before i tilled the back side after pics to are to come[IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Alrighty guys, now that I have my computer here's an update for ya.

FIRST: any word on the guys who haven't checked in? I PM'd Fitz to change our thread and let him know of the captain, but didn't hear back. I'm not sure if we have to do anything for that?

Now, I went and hung a camera at an area I found browsing Iowa DNR's website. There's a crap ton of public land, so I'm sure some of it has to be good. I've heard from everyone I've talked to in the area that there are big deer everywhere, and I believe it. The amount of corn here is stupid!

I have snaked my way through a few people in the area, and have one guy calling people he knows trying to find me a piece of private land to hunt. It sounds like farmers up here are eager to get people to hunt, and I'm sure even more bowhunters rather than shotgun.

Anyhow, so this is the arial of the area that I went to. There was one truck parked there when I showed up, which was kind of discouraging, especially since it was raining, and had been raining all day.

The blue line is the public property line off of Iowa DNR, and the yellow is the trail that I took it. I'm going to have to rethink this route because I came close to being on the private property, even though there were no signs or fences. I wouldn't want someone on my land, so I don't want to be on theirs.

You can see some of the hills and drainages on this map, and wow! I was surprised. Here is a full arial and a topo of the area. I'll explain the meaning of the rest of the lines as well.

So walking in, I found a "saddle"? is that the right word? Anyhow it was a hill that slowly decended into the woods, and on both sides of me were drop offs (50-75 ft) that went down to a creek and then back up again. I slid my way down the hill and climbed back up, definitely not ideal for walking in with a bow and lonewolf. I have pics I'll have to upload later.

After walking in and going through the creek bottom, I came across a solid trail, maybe too good to be a game trail, but there were fresh deer tracks in it, like I said it has been raining. That is marked by the light blue line, and it is strictly a guess, I'm guessing it runs back to where I parked- there was a faint trail leading in the woods by the truck and it looked similar. After looking at the map it makes sense. You can see the yellow x where I hung the camera, I tried to mark this on the topo for reference. The red are paths I hope are there so I can better access some of the other area.

On the fullsize map I marked pink circles of areas I'd like to look at, and the yellow trails I'm hoping will be there to better access the areas. I'm going to go back out Tuesday or Wednesday depending on the weather to get my camera. I know this isn't very long, but I was a bonehead when hanging it. (I've never used a python cord before) so I wrapped it around the front of the camera through the spot you would lock it from being opened, rather than putting through the area the treestrap goes. Let's hope it's okay until then. I'll be in Kansas tomorrow evening through Sunday night.

Overall, I was really impressed with the area. Rows of pines in the timber, crp (close to the private) that had definite deer beds in it, a huge corn field to the east, lots of hills, and deer crap all over by the creek. Oh, and plenty of acorns laying around!

I'm going to study up on this area, and hope the trail system works out how I want. At least from what I've seen, there will be a lot better route going back to my camera when I go and get it. Staying hopeful!
